I just changed my plugs, waterpump, belts and crankshaft position sensor. I put everything together and the car did not start, motor just turned over. The same thing happened when my waterpump was leaking and the coolant was going over my cps causing the engine to stop, tach needle went down. So I shut off the car, went for a walk and came back 10 minutes later and the car started. The only problem was mostly on the highway the engine would shut off again. When I installed my new cps I just took the old one off and put the new one on and did not gap it to 0.03 inches or .8mm between the cps and pulley shaft. Could that be my problem. Do I have to purchase a gapping tool because .03inches is pretty slim. Thanks

You may have even ripped the CPS apart by starting the car that way.It will NOT run without being gapped.Get a set of guages also,it is in no way possible to eyeball a .03 gap.

Carl, the gapping tool is just a cheap spark plug gapper with a .030" setting. Just don't get the gradual tapered bezel type. I saw on the 60k video where Mark broke off the .030 setting from the round gauge with the boxed wire and set that part between the sensor and the pulley shutters while screwing it back in to make life easier. Looks like it's back in there for round 2. Don't forget to locktite the crank bolt when you reinstall.
