Ford GTDI Carbon Issues

As most of you know direct injection engines get a bad wrap for premature intake carbon issues. I have about 18k on mine and at 20k Im going to pull my intake and inspect for carbon build up. I have only used Castrol Edge oil and BP 93 gas in this engine.
I will try to get detailed pics with my boroscope screen and post the results in the near future.

I do think the results will be better then expected due to Fords PCV catch can set up and this intake valve cleaning method they have. As far as I know this method or something like this is used in the Ecoboost.

That should be very revealing, Cheech. Having heard a lot about this issue, I for one am anxious for the results.

I was told that my cylinder 2 and 3 injector failures at 20,000 miles were due to this exact issue. I guess I'm going to have to use Redline system cleaner every 15K or so.

While I did not pull my intake completely off. Did look in as far as possible when I was installing my W/M system. With the exception of a slight partial ring of soot near the throttle body, the rest of the intake was clean, as far as I could see... and... clean to a terrycloth towel. Likely the real test will be how the top of the intake valves look, but not sure if you can see them when you pull the intake. Hoping the Methanol injection will work as a cleaner. Great solvent....
