In a word.....PERFECT!!

They are the Elbrus 17x7.5" 48mm offset wheels with 215/50ZR17 Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 tires (tire/wheel package from Tire Rack):

"After" shots:

Inside strut clearance, and fenderlip clearance (pic is at the top of the tire):

Looks like a good 1/2" on the inside. And yes, you "fatter is better" tire folks could put a 225 on this rim!! Outside fenderlip clearance is also good.

I drove around the subdivision (with the crappy potholes) with NO rubbing.

Perfect for me. No need to trim the fenderwells, plus enough clearance to not rub under track conditions.

I probably could have gone with an 8" rim, but IMO it would have been dicey on the inside, and with a 225 tire on an 8", it may have rubbed under track conditions, assuming it cleared in a static environment.

FWIW, I really didn't want to trim the fenderlip, and this worked out GREAT for me. Plus, to my eyes, the 215/50 tires almost look wider on the new rims.

Looks great Ron!

I thought the center of those wheels dipped in a little farther from the pictures on tire rack. With an 8" wheel I bet you would of rubbed no matter how you drove without rolled lips. I rape my cars with the fender roller, but thats just how I am.

Any update on the XP10s?

Thanks!!

It will be another few weeks before I get to the brakes. I didn't want all-black wheels, but I wanted black insides to help hide the dust that those XPs will produce!!!

Sure those are 48mm? You must have got the last set, because TireRack doesn't list them.

Yeah, I just went back, and they show 45mm now.

I "swear" the key reason I got them was the 48mm offset, but my receipt/invoice doesn't show it.

Hey, I'm old and forget shyte (!!), but compared to the other black wheels out there, I thought that was the reason I picked 'em.

Anyway, whether I was right or wrong, a 48mm would have fit to the strut even if these were 45mm.

But I still believe I got 48mm. IIRC, there weren't many left when I ordered over a month ago.

Sweet set-up Ron. Enjoy, and don't worry what anyone else thinks. You like it and that's what counts. :salute:

It should say ET 48 on the back of the wheel.

I don't remember what the 89 hubs do as far as wheel placement, but I would have thought there would be less room between the wheel and strut. Nonetheless, sounds like they do exactly what you want, so no room to complain.

I'm not so wild about them, I like the basketweaves considering it a very clean and rare white 89, why not keep it original?

they seem to fit the wheel good, let me know how the v12's ride after u get some experience with them, I was going to buy them but was scared away by the treadwear rating, they are supposed to ride smooth

It's his car. He can repaint it Green for all I care. Besides, If I owned that car it would be as far from original as possible. I've owned a near bone stock 89 that drove REALLY good for a 20 year old SHO... but still drove like shit compared to my wife's lightly modded 92.
