So I bought this 95 sho a few weeks back knowing it had tranny issues. The car drove fine but DUMPED fluid...so this weekend I pulled the trans and found a TINY hole that allowed fluid into where the clutch is and then it leaked down from between where the engine/trans bolted together.

So that sucked, I figured something in the case broke/snapped and punched a hole in the case, yet the diff pins are in place/not broken, so maybe spider gears?

Anyways, I bought a used trans from a junkyard and although I thought I inspected it carefully it was snowing and freezing outside then, well went to put it in a realize the mount for the rod shifter is cracked off....aka I only have half of the bolt hole/thread to mount the rod shifter....so FML, TWO bad trannys.

My question is how risky is it splitting both cases and making one good one?

I dont' want to use the diff/internals from the one in the car as something had to have broken to case the case damage, but the other one AFAIK is fine, except for the broken mount.

So can I take the half of the case from one and bolt it onto the other half of the case on the other one? I will have to weld the tiny hole from my original trans, but that's an easier fix than fixing the broken rod shifter mount.

Sorry to ramble....I just can't find any good trans locally and need this car up and running soon.

I saw the write up on the shophoenix site, but it worried me as it appears all the interals stay with the clutch side of the case, vs the other way around.

What do you guys recommend?

You need the same half of the case on both transmissions. Thats not good.

I figured as much. DAMNIT! I love me some SHO's but finding used parts are a PITA.

Has anyone repaired the mount for the rod shifter? I'm worried even if I have it welded and re-tapped/drilled it safely?

Thanks for the link Vortec! Definitely something I may have to go with.

Did you buy one/install one? Just looking for someone with personal experience.

If the car ran fine during the past few weeks, I would look a little harder at the original transmission. If nothing fell out when you looked in, I would look for indications that this is a casting flaw that finally broke through.
Give it a good look over and get some advice from the local guys. I would stick with the original unit until it proves to be irrepairable.
