What's the best procedure to remove the flywheel bolts of which have been previously Loctited? I've tried to wedge a breaker bar on the crankshaft bolt but all that did was loosen the crank bolt. Tips and pointers please.

Put a big bolt through one of the starter mounting holes and use that as a resting place for a big screw driver wedged into one of the teeth of the flywheel.

Grab a double ended boxed end wrench, any size will do as you can switch sizes as you proceed. Using one of the pressure plate bolts, loosly (is that a real word?) bolt the wrench to the flywheel. Then with whatever bolts you have laying around run a bolt thru the other end of the wrench and into a bell housing hole. One of the starter holes works just fine. That setup will hold many hundreds of pounds of force and will keep the flywheel from turning in either direction.

What I was trying to say was the mounting hole for the starter on the block.

I like Perry's idea though also. I've used a chain and his method before, but the wrench would be quicker.

That's because I'm old and ********. The bolt hole that is right above the starter, on the block. It's one that bolts the tranny to the block. Now I can get back to just drooling.

Oops. My brain was running in closed loop last night. Just use any of the tranny bolt holes in the block. The 2 without threads work too but you will need a nut for that bolt.

Oh, so that's what they call it now. They used to call it "Old Timers Disease". At least that's what my doctors tell me.

You can also install a wrench/socket onto another of the flywheel bolts to apply the counter torque.

That method will not work on the last one though.

Yes it will. I use that method to remove the water pump pulley bolts.

For the water pump pulley, I break torque on the bolts before I loosen the belt. Tons easier that way.

True. I was thinking of having the engine on a stand with no belts.

I had no trouble putting a breaker bar on the alternator bolt and having someone hold it. The bolts were previously loctited...or at least it looked that way.
