Flywheel markings

Here is a picture of my buddies flywheel of his 89. The clutch is stock and had maybe 5K miles on it since it was put in. Are these markings typical from heat? Or is there something wrong going on with the clutch setup? The clutch was a stock OEM kit from SHONutPerformance with a new original TOB.

those are heat spots, nothing out of the ordinary. When u get it surfaced and re-installed make sure there is no oil on the surface, thats where heat spots can start.

Looks like heat damage. If it's only on the surface (like water spots on a metal fork), it's ok. If it is worse, he might be riding the clutch way too much, in which case he is slowly melting or burning the flywheel and clutch. I have seen a 2001 M5 with the clutch and flywheel melted together, so it definately can happen.... (and wow did it smell bad!)

The spots are surface only, and the flywheel was a reground unit also from SHONutPerformance which was installed with the clutch kit. AFIK he doesn't ride the clutch. The surface still felt smooth to the touch so I was just wondering if this was normal to see. Thanks.

Yeah those pictures are from Mark's car. We took the picture when we did the engine swap. His car is currently down AGAIN, due to a leaky tranny..
