Flowmaster issues

I have a 99 SHO with Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers on it. I also have the3rd cat. and resonator removed. I bought these mufflers with the intent of having a better sound on the outside. However, the interior noise for these things is quite annoying. If there is anything that can be done to cure this, Id appreciate the help. Also, does anyone out there have the delta 50 series mufflers? If so, how are they?

First put at least the resonator back in, if not the 3rd cat too.

I haven't personally heard a set of Super 40's on a V8 SHO yet, so I really don't have a point of reference as to the interior noise, but I can tell you with the Original 40's, with or without a 3rd cat but definitely with the resonator, the sound inside the cabin is just barely perceptible at cruising speeds. I have never heard a set of 50's on a V8 SHO that sounded good. If you're really set on a Delta version, go with the 40's, but again with at least the resonator back in the tract.

You can either put a resonator back on or since the weather is breaking maybe some sound deadening material could make the cabin tolerable. Stuff like dynamat,raammat,brownbread, or even iceguard from Lowe's. I haven't done this yet but I'll be putting some in this spring when I get the time.

i dont know how to make a sound clip. i got a video phone with recorder and im stuck on stupid. the 50 sound real nice at idle and purr up to 2500-3000 then they become a little quieter. remember this is a 4dr sleeper, not a mustang gt. ive never heard the 40s but i do know i deffinetely would not want it louder. i will state the car does feel slower immediately after the muffs installed. and when i put the 245/50/16 chrome/vs the aluminum 225/55/16 it felt even slower.... no go figure.....

I ve ran 40s with and without res and 3rd cat . A very noticable difference indeed . W/the res and cat in , it is smooth yet throaty enough to sound sweet and the interior noise is just enough to know you have a V-8 .
W/out them is just flat out loud all the way around . Put the res and cat back in if you have them still , or install a good new res .

I have the 50's (with 3rd cat). They're pretty loud under throttle, even inside. Too loud? No ... just right. I added an extra layer of 1/2" of heavy carpet padding in the trunk to help **** a bit of the noise. I upholstered it up the sides and back of the trunk as well.

Im not really a fan of putting the 3rd cat back in for 2 reasons, 1) the car did seem to get gaster once i removed it and 2) i dont have it anymore... But do you think a good resonator by itself spliced in just after the flex pipe should take care of my sound problem? Any advice on how long it should be? Ive seen them sold in 10" and 14" lengths and could always piggyback two of them if needed...

The longer the better. If you can get one between 18" and 24", that would be about the same length as stock.

David, just for clarification, IIRC you're running the Delta 40's and not the Original 40's, right? With the Delta's being significantly quieter than the Originals, I can see how removing the resonator wouldn't make much of a difference.

Hmmmmm..... Interesting. Next time you're climbing around under your car, look for the laser-etched part number by the oulets on the mufflers. The difference with and without the resonator when running Original 40's is unmistakable IMHO.
