I'm going to put lights in the fish tanks today but I'm not sure what size bulb I should use and if I should use a clear or amber bulb.

Personal preference really. I like amber. I am trying to remember buld names. The easiest thing to do is go to the local parts store and buy trailer bulb harnesses and wire them in. Get on for a side marker light (957 I think). But the guy behind the counter should be able to tell you what size bulb comes with the harness if there is not one allready in place. Go small, like flashlight bulb small.

At superbrightleds.com they have led sheets. You cut them to fit. They also have big clusters that fit n OEM holder. I'd like to see that in the tanks.

kurtis adum,

What type of strobes did you use? I have strobes in my tanks but they flash inconsistantly. Looks really ghetto.

I used a 194 bulb, which is the most common sidemarker bulb. They turned out real nice. Depends on your socket though.

that's just like my install, I used 168s though. Supposedly they're brighter then 194s

Very nice. I don't like the idea of them lighting up white though. Because with the headlights on, they wont show and with just the park lights and the fogs, they will look outta place IMO. I like the look of amber on one level with the fogs on. Just my opinion though.

Without getting too technical. 194's are rated 2 spherical candlepower, while 168's are 3, therefore the 168's are brighter. 168's are most commonly license plate bulbs.

im gonna be doing this mod soon.. so the 194's are the brightest ambers?

Sorry dosmoney, I had the numbers mixed up.

It all depends on what socket your gonna use. If you plan on tapping into the sidemarker light, I would use a wedge type 194 or 168. If you plan on tapping into the park/turn lamp, you might want to use something bigger, ie. 3157 or another dual filament.

You can get the small bayonet style bulb in up to an 18w size from Intermatic. It is for their landscaping lights.
