I used to drag race (1/4 mile) my daily driver a couple of decades ago, got away from it but have always loved doing occasional WOT's runs with every single vehicle I've owned.
I've had my SHO for about a year now and never taken it to a drag strip or being challenged at a stop light... until yesterday.
So I am at a stop light on a two lane road (each way) that turned into a single lane about 500 feet from where I was. I had a Ram next to me, with some mods, 2-3 inch lift that tell you the owner is also a car guy. I wanted to get ahead of him when the light turned green as my lane was the one that had to merge so as soon as the light changed I accelerated just a bit more than normal and the next thing I see (and hear) is that the guy in the Ram floored it. As soon as noticed that I did the same and byyyyeee.... all he heard was my Corsa screaming "are you serious???"
Since it is Winter and there is snow and ice, I took off the 93 tune and am running on a 87 octane one to save on fuel... wish I had the 93 on to have made it even more noticeable.
Yeah, I know a Ram is no challenge for an SHO but it felt sooooo good !!! and wanted to share... So nice to see that even with him having the advantage by flooring it first, my SHO just took off in second gear. I'd have loved to see his face.

I love pulling away from people at stop lights. In my case, with the PP and the lower gear ratio, it makes pulling away that much more fun. If I really think I might have some competition, I power-brake it slightly to get the turbos spooled up first. Untuned, 93 octane. I have yet to have a problem breaking away from the pack.

The one guy who thought he could take me in a Dodge Charger in the rain, well, duh...

I had a similar experience also against a Ram. We we're at a light and he was accelerating more than I was, then I heard him go WOT and I thought I would respond in kind. He heard muffler delete non-tuned PP running 93 octane say "see ya" as I flew past him. He got me nervous a bit later though as he turned off his headlights and was following me for a few blocks. He ended up turning so it was no big deal but it did make me give some curious glances in the rear view mirror.

Another one bites the dust.

I killed a squirrel, not my proudest moment, but nobody ever wants to race me. Maybe that’s because I only prowl the local retirement homes and public libraries.

I'm with everything you said. This is why I can not store my car for the season. I get too much out of it every time I drive it. Even if I'm driving like a gramps, I want to always be ready at the light.

I am like that a good 0-60 is good for the soul. My buddy called it that highway sound. Most fun run i had was a brand new yellow n black bumble bee R/T charger with new plates. A 30 something and his beautiful blond passenger pulls up at a light and is revving up. I look over and she is smiling to beat the band, hand out the window with the thumbs up sign. She starts waving and pointing forward in a gesture to get me to go. I motioned yes with my head. She smiled back and turned to say something to the driver. Probably like, he said yes! She looks back all serious with a devilish grin. I smile, drop into S, torque up to 1800 and prepare for launch. Right then the light turns and I hesitate, as I was doing my cursory glance left n right saftey check. The charger pulls out on me, she's looking back over her shoulder laughing, blond hair blowing in the breeze, hand out the window waving good bye. And I launched. All four tires grabbing at the limits of adhesion. I saw her waving hand flutter, then stop waving goodbye, the look of horror on her face was worth the price of admission. 2013 +PP, summer tire grip, 93 octane AJPTURBO tune for the win! I almost felt bad as I blasted past, at 4 car lengths in front I hit the brakes, the second look on her face is still engrained in my mind, mouth wide open in utter shock, both hands up palms out like I said hands up your arrested, I swear I think I saw a tear in her eye....

You should've seen the face of the guy in a Camaro ZL1 1LE with is girlfriend trying to showoff! He was coming from a cars n coffee parking lot and I knew he would try something so I just brake-boosted it right when the light turned green. He floored it too and I'm sure he spun a little - but it took him to well into 3rd gear to real me in! Hit the next red light and I had to turn, looked over to wave and be friendly but his face was all full of p1ssed off!!! HA!!
