Got in my SHO today and pulled out in first but, i think it was third. Also the shifter is real loose. Just wondering if it is the linkage, and if it is I heard that they used to make a replacement rod linkage like in the newer ones.
Any ideas on how much this will cost me to get fixed?

Might be what you said, but I'm not quite sure. If your SHO was made before mid-1991, you probably have the cable shifter, and it is supposed to feel a little loose. If it's too loose, that just makes me wonder more about the linkage. As a simple start, unscrew the shift ****, and pull the plastic cover off around the shifter. Unscrew the shift boot, and see if there's anything obvious in there. As for the rod shifter, it is mainly meant to increase shifting quality, not fix problems. The best place to look for one would either be on the forum, or at a junk yard.

checked that out and everything seems to be fine inside the car. It is a 1990. with cable linkage. How hard is it to check where the cables link to the tranny.

Here is what it is doing. 1st is 3rd. I dont know what 2nd is. 3rd is 3rd and 4th is 4th. Sometimes I can get it into reverse sometimes i cant. 5th I think is 5th but it didnt try it.
So basically I dont have 1st and 2nd. But in there place I think I have 3rd and 4th

Any help would make my day.

Good to hear! I'm getting a lot of help from the forum lately, so don't be afraid to ask when something isn't right (unless you did a burnout just before the problem! thumbs_u ). My issue involves several overlapping problems!

It puts alot of stress on the differential pin. If you do this too much then the pin will break loose into the tranny. Needles to say the tranny will be toast and you will have to get another one.

I have the exact same problem, except I'm missing my bottom gears too. I need to fabricate bushings or find a new cable shifter.

Sorry, I meant to say "has anybody had a similar problem?"

This is too dead-on with my '89, and I need to get it fixed by Saturday Morning or else I can't get to my new school!
