Hello. Was looking for some info and input on what kind of horsepower and torque can be built from à first gen. Sho engine. I am doing a custom build. It also needs to be rwd. From what i have read it is not a Big deal to convert to rwd. Thanks in advance for any info.

The bottom end is reported to sustain up to 600 HP. How you get there is your issue, but turbo / supercharging is the most economical.
You will find transmissions that will bolt up to make it rear wheel drive, but most will not hold up if you are using econimical standard production units.
There are dyno threads on this forum that illustrate maximum horsepower; and other threads that discuss and rear wheel drive conversions.

In its original Gen I configuration, the SHO engine is severely limited by its front wheel configuration and total lack of gearing choice, in a one only fat-body sedan.

That same engine, in rear wheel drive form and preferred gearing, combined with sustained 7000 rpm operation, could be a formitable performer in any forum, even with its current horsepower.

Careful selection of body and gearing will yield huge rewards.

I would install the stock engine in the configuration you want and see if more horsepower is beneficial. You have traction to consider, and more horsepower never helps traction.

if you are doing 400 hp in a rwd configuration, your best bet is to use the Canfield adapter and put a sbf transmission behind it. the M5ODR1 will handle about 300 lb-ft of torque fine but the R1 will be shaky above that. any of the automatics that will bolt right up to the Vulcan pattern will struggle mightily to live at half the power you want to run.

if you use the Canfield adapter, you can put a 4R70W / AOD or a T-5 or M5ODR2 from a SuperCoupe behind it, and those should be fine at your power levels, although the T-5 will be marginal depending on how you drive and how sticky of tires you have.

I have parts in my for-sale thread that can help you with either choice.
