Just curious if anyone has the Ford Racing Touring exhaust for their SHO:

https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-5200-SHOTC

I've got it on order, as I've used the Ford catback's before on my Mustangs and they've been awesome. Those kits were manufactured by Borla, but I have no idea who makes this kit. I'm wondering if it isn't a Corsa system...

Assuming you mean "Borla", I think that's awesome. Can't wait to receive it and get it installed. I have always liked the Borla sound, and was disappointed to find that they don't sell a cat back for the SHO.

The video of the Mustang FRP/Borla exhaust is the "Sport" muffler, while the FRP cat-back for the SHO is marketed as "Touring". At least with other manufacturers, it's been my experience that the "Touring" exhaust systems are going to be much quieter than "Sport" systems. Not that I believe for a second that any exhaust for the SHO will make it sound like a V-8, let alone a Mustang. That's okay though, as I'm not looking for anything that loud.

This is only 2.25". The factory pipes are 2.25". What's the point?

As mentioned, I've always liked the sound of Borla exhaust systems, and know that they are top shelf quality. Besides, cat-back's are sort of like CAI systems. Some people swear by them for making anywhere from 3-100 HP, while others insist it does nothing but make the car sound better. I have no plans on making this any type of race car, but wish to continue along with the sleeper theme the Taurus SHO has become known for.

Once I get the system, I'll try and post some pics, as well as get some before and after sound clips. This will be the first horsepower mod I've done, so it will be a good baseline to go by.

Man! If you're just looking for sound don't spend $1,500 dollars!! I would want V8 sound, 100HP, and a ********* that comes with it. I kid. But seriously Flowmaster makes an awesome 44 Series muffler that will sound great if you plan on keeping the same 2.5 inch tubing why replace the entire system with the same exact thing?

Yep, it is installed. Been on my car for almost a month now.

However, due to some "technical" issues, shall we say, I'm going to hold off on posting any sound clips or reviews right now. I promise I will get something up in the coming weeks. I will also explain everything then.

In the meantime, what is the best/preferred way to post sound clips here? I took some cell phone video of the stock exhaust before it was removed, and plan to do the same for the FRPP/Borla system (when the time is right). How to get those two clips for all to watch?

Looking forward to your review. Have to say on this platform it's nice to be able to have a casual conversation or enjoy the sound system at cruise, but still have it roar when you stomp down on it. Curious to see what kind of results you net from the new exhaust. My little mule Montero Sport has a Injen cold air intake and Flomaster 44 exhaust that helped breath some life into the 3.0L mouse motor, but it's a bit abnoxious all the time (my neighbors love to hear it start when I go to work at 5am).

Hello OmaHahn,

I look up the Series 44 2.5's on Amazon and they say they do not fit my vehicle. Are you sure these fit?

I'm sure the reason they say they don't fit is because the stock system is 2.25" pipes. However, if your exhaust shop knows anything they can adapt to fit 2.5" in/out on the muffler. As far as physical size, hop under the car and measure the open space on the passenger side (it has less room than the drivers side). As long as it physically fits in the area, they should be able to make it work.

Do you have these on your car?

Okay, guys. This has taken a lot longer than I had hoped, so I'm going to give everyone the update:

I had the FRPP/Borla system installed late July. I had not opened the box prior to taking everything to the muffler shop to get it installed. Once they got it on the car, I got the bad news that brings me to where I am today.

The exhaust tips are welded on wrong. With this system, the tips are placed more or less on their sides so that they follow the contour of the rear bumper. However, both tips on the kit I got are at the wrong angles, and stick out and look ridiculous. It really does look bad, and is something I didn't even think was possible. I've had so many different aftermarket cat-back systems installed over the years (including another FRPP/Borla) and have never had any problems. But this kit, that I was so excited about getting, had to be "the one".

Needless to say, Borla was advised and is getting me a new exhaust without questions. But it is taking A LOT longer than it should have. They were made aware of the problem on August 1, and I'm now being told I should get the replacements next week.

So, "How does it sound?" is I'm sure what everyone really wants to know. The reason I haven't posted any audio clips yet is because I wanted to only put up sound of the final kit once it's installed for good. I will go ahead and give my impressions of the messed up kit that's on there now. It's a love-hate deal. From outside the car, the exhaust sounds VERY good. I really like it. It's a pretty deep sound. However, from inside the car, I'm not at all happy. The best way I can describe the sound I hear while driving is like a 1999 4-cylinder Civic with a hole in its' junk fart-can. It isn't a drone, it is just a horrible sound. I have actually gotten out of the car and gone to the back to listen for a minute just so I don't get thoroughly ******.

Now, I have been reluctant to say anything to this point because my hope has been that not just the exhaust tips, but everything about the currently installed kit is jacked up. When I get the replacement system, I'm going to go to a different exhaust shop to get it installed and have them make sure the first one didn't screw up anything. I really believe in Borla, and they've been great to work with on this issue, save for the extended amount of time it's taken. I'm really trying to reserve judgement until I get the new system installed. But, as of my experience to this point, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to rate the overall experience a 3 or 4. My hope is that in a few more weeks, that will change to a 10.

Honestly, this is the first car I've ever heard where I didn't think Borla exhaust sounded good.

Curious...is this the first v6 you've had Borla on? The v6 is just not an inherently good sounding motor. I once heard a Thunderbird SC with Borla and it sounded awful as well.

Same car with Flowmasters actually sounded better, but still not good.

Magnaflow seems to do the best of eliminating the v6 rasp in my limited experience.
