Does anyone have the weight for a FG Cowl hood vs Stock vs CF cowl hood. I did some searching but found mixed results. At ShoSource they advertise 23lbs (40lb savings) for the carbon fiber one. I am working on a trade for a fiberglass one and was wondering if the weight savings were the same? Thanks

The CF hoods are CF. The bracing is made from fiberglass.

I could be way out but for some reason I think my FG cincy hood was 28lbs. I should have wrote it down.

Thanks. Ill have to figure out a way to weigh it before I put it on. If 28 is correct then its a pretty good savings over stock....I believe the stock gen II hood is about 55 to 60.

The CF hoods are CF. The bracing is made from fiberglass.

no, they are a sheet of carbon fiber on the top so that is what you see..... it is the first piece of fabric put in the mold so you see carbon fiber weave....

I've owned a CF hood and used to make cars out of Carbon Fiber

Mosler Mt900s

made doors, bumpers, splitters, all kinds of stuff...... you can pick up a door for that car with your pinky....

if the SHO hood was really made of all CF, it would be a lot lighter.... do some research on how companies make them.....

its all for the look, yes it will shave some weight of an all FG hood because the CF is stronger and doesn't require as much material

CF hood is 23lbs IIRC, and the stock hood is around 60 from what I remember.

ALL CF hoods from any vendor have a Fiberglass skeleton with CF top.

At the time the all Fiberglass hood was around 40lbs and the Carbon Fiber one was 23lbs.

The Fiberglass skeleton was used to help reinforce it without spending a fortune in carbon fiber.

Thanks for the info. Just trying to figure out how much I will save over stock. Looks like somewhere between 20 to 30 pounds.

if you're trying to save weight, just gut the whole thing and pin it in four corners

Im gonna check it out before I put it on the car to see if there is any more weight to be saved. Ive already pulled a bit of weight from the car. Figured with the hood being over the nose (duh) and up higher it should help out in the corners.

A handful of 11lb GEN1 CF hoods were made by CF1 several years ago. You had to pin the hood on all four corners.

I know my CF/FG hood on my turbo SHO was really light even in comparison to the + hood I have on my gen 1. The + hood is still really heavy.
