I replaced my mufflers recently with a pair of higher flow mufflers. The main reason was the factory mufflers had 1/2 dollar holes in the bottom?I was reading v8 SHO mods and it said the factory mufflers are stainless and would last forever? And the holes were rust and the mufflers were FORD with the original tips.

They are very cheap stainless steel and will not last forever as you found out.

Well, mine are heading toward 10 years old and lived the first 6-7 in the high salted road, ocean environment of Atlantic Canada, but are showing not a spot of rust anywhere. And though I would like to try new ones, I refuse to replace a muffler that still is intact. So, how long do you figure I still have to wait, Paul?

I'd say you will have to wait a very long time. My '92 has 250K on it and the original mufflers are working fine. A while back there was a post about mufflers and the consensus seemed to be that while they don't last forever they will outlast everything that can wear out, other than the Yamaha motor and if you are lucky the manual transmission.

I was making a video on how to change your oil (for class) yesterday and noticed the clamp behind the 3rd cat was loose. Turns out it rusted completely through and I had to rip it off.

Car lived in Toronto before I owned it.

Toronto like the Northeast has rough winters. One reason I was surprised so little rust except stainless steel haha.

Maybe I should check my clamps eek.

On a side note,I'll say also losing the factory mufflers is a kick in the pants in first gear feels like more torque is there.

I have to disagree, feels the same.

Likes more gas though as the right pedal is more "fun"

The car also spins the tires when I floor it from a stop easy.It didn't before the muffler change barely barked.

Good, now go weld your cams.

And 97SHOgt, look for some video clips I took with a Canon GL1 in the next few weeks. Wish I would have had more time with the camera, but oh well.
