Hi, how do I know if I have a factory Ford alarm I've been hearing people talk about? When I bought this SHO two months ago, the previous owner listed "factory alarm" as part of the options. I didn't see anything to justify an alarm system then, so I just wrote it off thinking that he was refering to the panic option on the key-chain controller.

Now, yesterday, I accidentally clicked the lock button on the key-chain controller twice and the car made a single low pitched honk that I've never noticed my old SHO do. Is this a sign of that alarm system he was refering to, or am I just imagining things?

EDIT: I do have key-less entry, and my key-chain controller looks like every other early-mid 90's ford car (trunk, lock, un-lock and panic buttons)

Press your lock button twice, and try to open your door w/o unlocking them...might have to do it a few times, if alarm goes off...there you go. Do you have a flashing red light anywhere in the car? On my old 93ATX, I had a flashing little bulb on the left side, near my steering wheel.

My 93 has the flashing red light also, but my controller only has a lock and unlock button. I can see the alarms siren when looking in the engine bay on the drivers side. My trunk is the pull switch on the floor by the drivers seat along with the gas tank. Kinda glad they're not electric, just something else to break!

All Taurus' that had the factory alarm, beep after 2 clicks of lock. The first locks the drivers door the second locks all the doors.

Correct me if i am mistakin, but i beleive this is true.

I dont know if the "alarm" will sound if a break in attempt is made. I doubt it, but Panic works.

Don't get "keyless entry" and "factory alarm" confused. All SHOs have keyless entry. It was a standard option. Look in your trunk on the left side up against the rear seat. IF (big word) you see a black box w/ a 5 digit code AND a antenna connection coming out the side ...... You have "remote keyless" entry. If there is NO antenna coming out the side .... You just have keyless entry. Now there are some SHOs running around with no keypad on the drivers door. If this is your car, still look in hte truck for the box. You might have remote keyless entry w/o the keypad.

Now if you have remote keyless entry you might have a factory equipt alarm. On your dash you will have a "theft" light that might blink. The only way to test if you do is to remotely lock the doors with the driver's window open. After 3-5 minutes open the door from the inside while standing outside the car. If your horn starts beeping you have a "rare" factory equipt alarm. The only way to disarm the alarm is with the remote. There is no shock sensor. The alarm only detects if there is a spike in voltage drop. IE: dome / trunk light turning on.

If you have a siren under your hood, chances are you have a aftermarket alarm system. Ford never placed a siren in thier vechiles w/ remote keyless systems equipt with anti-theft.

If you look on 3bay for factory remotes, the only one you are gonna find are the 4-button (for taurus). If you have a remote that is not like the one pictured, then its aftermarket.

Try doing the test mentioned above. If your horn doesn't sound after 5 minutes, you don't have a factory alarm. You just have keyless entry. My Stang has keyless entry. I have tried this test and I don't have the alarm. I do have the PATS system. You need my key in order to start the car. There is a chip inside the key that tells the computer that this is the rightto start the car. I am adding a Code Alarm PRO-F30 that allows me to keep my factory remotes but adds all the features of a regular car alarm including shock sensors. This model alarm can be adapted to ANY car with keyless entry. thumb

All SHOs do NOT have keyless entry. The 93 ATX I had had remote but not a key pad and the 89 I had did not. The 89 I have right now does and I like it. Lets me leave the keys in my car w/o fear of locking them in there. The stop stopper is nice too(sometimes)

I would like to know more info on this alarm please. I want to add an alarm to my SHO, but I want to keep my factory keyless entry, so this sounds like a great option to me!! How many models of alarms are there to where you can still use the factory keyless entry? I don't want to spend too much money for the alarm!?

Now to support what you have said ..... Yes, not all SHOS came with keyless entry. But it is possible that Ford added the keyless entry box and not the keypad. I belive on GEN I models it was a option and became standard on GEN II.

Hey, uh, I know this thread is like 4 years old but I have the true-blue factory anti-theft module in my red '94 ATX. It has a little blinky red light right next to the autolamp sensor, and a cancel button right above the handle for the cabin fusebox. Connected to the RKEM is a ford anti-theft module and a shock sensor. I will try to get pics up sometime in the future. I have been searching HIGH AND LOW for schematics for this system but google gots nothing!

Does anybody know any more about the factory theft system than they didn't know in july of 2003? My alarm goes off and it disables the starter if I so much as hit the keypad! it shuts off when I enter the correct code but you still have to hit the cancel button to start the car. I had to turn the shock sensor all the way down because if would set the alarm off if I leaned on the car!

OK, fair enough. I didn't get pics of my remote, but it's the standard 4-button ford remote, and it's in the video I took as well. Here goes nothing...

That's a feature of the keyless entry system. The honk is just to let you know audiably that you have already locked all the doors.

If you have the add on ford alarm you would have a car alarm siren horn some where under the hood or where ever the installer mounted it.

I picked up one of these units several years ago and never installed it and since I did my V-8 conversion I have the anti theft system that is built into the GEN III's.

Yup, my old '94 had the same alarm, but I think it was dealer installed (still factory). Many of them had the light between the steering wheel and the left dash vent. Do you still have the siren in the engine bay? IIRC, mine was mounted to the strut tower behind the air box.

Mine doesn't have a siren. It honks the horn, and the horn is very loud. I have searched the engine compartment for a siren, but there is none... just the two horns right next to the DLR jumper.

I have this after market dealer installed alarm. How hard would it be to remove it? I ask this, because the fobs are junk now, and the siren in the engine bay doesn't work anymore, it only clicks, so I'd just rather not have it.
