Factory Amp wattage question...

My factory sub finally blew about a month ago. well, after doing a lot of searching, I found a sweet drop in replacement sub. its a 6.5" JL audio sub. thing is sweet, hits nice and hard, for its size, and is real clean and crisp. Anyways, I was wondering about the amp for the sub. what is it rated at? the sub I got is rated for 125 peak watts, and 75 RMS, off the top of my head. I want to know if it would be worth it to upgrade the amp to something better.

best part of the whole deal was the sub I got fit perfectly back into the stock enclosure. I was so happy.

Actually, it's rated for 63 wats total power (P.O.S.). I found this out when I working in a Ford service dept. Junk it or bypass it with a decent amp. Heck, your head unit probably produces more power!!!

Damn!!! Now thinkin about it, JUST aftermarket speakers in place of the factory ones, just basically went out the door. The factory amp and headunit don't have enough power to make the transition worth it, or does it? How many people have just replaced the factory speakers with aftermarket ones and NOT the headunit and amp? What's the general consenses for the quality of sound. I don't know if it's worth it, even tho in the future, I plan on replacing the amps with something MUCH BETTER and more suited to power the speakers.

i think its always a good time for new speakers..the stock ones look fairly unimpressive..i think the magnets are about the diameter of a silver dollar..or less..so i'm assuming they're only designed to hit the high notes.

using the stock 4 channel amp: new speakers will still only be reproducing the higher frequencies since there's a built in crossover (the sub handles all the bass). it might sound a bit cleaner..newer tweeters in aftermarket speakers will probably reproduce sound a lot better then the stockers.. But still..its almost like a domino effect..once you replace one thing..you want to replace something else so you can get the full potential out of the last thing you bought.

For what its worth, i have stock front speakers, and head unit.... but i have 2 10'' subs, with a 400w on them. I bought a converter that converts regular signal into the RCA's.
IMO mine is very clear, and bumps very well. I have 2 way Pioneer 5x7's in the rear deck. that helped out alittle to...
the only problem that i have now, is when i put the pioneers in, whenever i turn the rdio off, the subs start to give off a constant bass. Im not to sure on what is causing this, maybe the amp for the speakers, keeps power going to the amp for the subs.... i dont know.....
iwanted to keep the stock look, for the interior(no stealy) thats why i bought that transformer.

i havent had a problem with my new jbl amp or polk sub so far..i even ran the remote wire across the trunk to the harness that goes into the stock 4channel and to my surprise..i spliced into the right wire! -since my new amp now turns on and off with the radio. i just realized recently that i have almost 550 dollars worth of stereo in my car..and i'm not even setting off car alarms on the next block..but thats just how i like it. Riding in my friends 2001 focus with the stock speakers and an el kamealeon..just makes it all worth it

To me, that's the way EVERYONE should set up their systems. High Fidelity and quality of the music being played, will ALWAYS surpass a booming, car alarm setting off, all bass system. You need the highs just as much as the lows. Being able to understand lyrics while still somewhat shaking your car, if u like music that loud (I sure do), then u get everything out of the music. Isn't that what everyone wants?

well let me tell u this i got an alpine head unit and all infinity speakers with two 10" subs in the trunk that are in a sealed box. i am running a jensen 720w amp to the subs right now but i have a power akoustic 820 and let me tell u it hits loud and clear. it makes my whole car shake and still sets off car alarms but u can still hear the highs.
