OK, so the left channel in my stereo only works on AM, so I need a new radio. I found a '00 AM/FM OEM CD player from a contour. I plugged it in, but it only works with the key turned to the accessory possition, when I turn it forward and start the car, the radio won't put out sound.

Anybody have an idea what my problem is? The SHO is a 92, and the radio is out of a '00 contour, obviously something must not be getting power. I bet jelloslug would be a great one to answer this question.

Does the radio turn off completly when you start it or just stop outputting sound?

Just stops putting out sound, power itself is consistant, just acts as if I unplugged the amp. I've found it wouldn't do anything with another radio out of a 93. Obviously they must have made some change (however minor) to the sound systems between 92 and 93.. or somethin screwy is up..

well, the CD player won't put any sound out(thought it did in accessory, but now I'm questioning, since I can't get it to repeat. However if I plug it into our 96 mustang, it plays great. There are 6 wires in the power plug on the mustang, and there are 8 wires in the plug on the SHO. The mustang will play the 93 SHO radio and the contour CD. What does it all mean??

Check for 5 volts on the dark blue wire (pin 12) going to the black JBL amp. That is the amp turn on lead.

I'll need to find a volt meter to do that, hopefully I can get that done this weekend. I'm also realizing the display in this CD player is green, and I'd prefer the teal display if I can find one..good luck with that I guess.

yeah they only made the blueish display for one or two years in coutours i think but i'm not sure. i would check the power to the amp, or the black amp may be bad. it went bad in my 92 and caused almost the same problem.

Ford used the AM/FM CD player in Explorers, Rangers, T-birds and F-150s also. All of those at one time or another had the "blue" display. I had to make my no-clock blue display unit out of a dead blue display unit that had a clock and a no-clock green unit.

and probes, aspires (has to be very rare) escorts, and full size broncos. unfortunatly I just can't get this one to work. Ford made a fairly major change to the way it wired it's headunits is all I can figure. I installed a Slave CD unit insted, now all I need to find is a replacement head unit, and I'll be good to go.

The only thing Ford changed between 86 and 95 with the single DIN sized radios was the voltage on the logic mute. It went from 12 volts on the older (1st gen SHO radios) to 5 volts (2nd gen SHO radios). Other than that they are all the same for the most part and they are all interchangeable. You are installing the jumper plug (in the 6 pin connector) on the AM/FM CD player when you install it in your SHO right?
