I recently puuled out my crappy stock radio out of my car and that cupholder/coin tray thingy. I was looking around the inside and found 2 or three wiring harnesses that look like they were just plugged into themselves  ? They look like they would plug into a slave CD player, amp outlets, etc. Am I right? I would like to know because I would like to install a newer tape deck/slave cd player setup out of a 1992-1995 taurus. Jelloslug, you did something like that, you could prabably help me out here?

Where were the connectors located? If it was to the left of the radio Those are the non JBL connector loops. Ford just added extra wiring for premium/JBL that pached in to the stock wiring car rather make an entire new harness.on of the connector is for power and just goes to the power connector on the radio (the radio power connector also picks up the power antenna connection alon the way) and the other is for the speakers. The is a harness the goes from the output of the JBL amp to the connector next to the radio, from there it goes to the door and rear deck speakers. If you wanted to you could take a low end Ford radio and plug it into the connectors on the side and it would work just fine (and bypass the amps). Also if you want to install an aftermarket radio you can use the cheaper standard harness and pulg it into there rather than buying the amp bypass harness.

All I really want is a cd player that works in the car for now, until I get it out of storage for 2 years. I'll probably end up just leaving an empty hole where the radio used to be. Thanks for the help, that ends a lot of confusion for me. I'm new to auto wiring, an the thought of looking at those wires scares me. I'll get used to it though.

If you just want a CD player try and find one of the Ford AM/FM CD players that were in Probes and T-Birds (they were in other vehicals also). Nice ones go for less than $100 on ebay and it's plug and play, no extra wiring needed.

I ended up hooking up a stock tape deck form my parts car. I finally got it out and it came kicking and screaming the whole way. So now, I have my cd player hooked up with a tape adapter, and it works good enough. The helpe has been very valuable though, thanks.

Is this the CD/Tuner that will work in a SHO?
Do I need the grey link cable or anything else?
Will the second volume and seek buttons near the instument cluster work with this?
Is the display color right?

Yes that is the one. There is no extra cable needed, it is a direct replacement for the premium AM/FM tape deck (what the SHO came with). The second volume and seek buttons work with that unit, you get the added bonus of the seek buttons being track up and down when your playing a CD. The only way to know if the display is the correct color is to ask the person that removed it. If it's not you can always get a broken one off ebay and swap over the lense and the light bulb covers. I did that on one of those decks and it worked fine.

The Gen 2 SHO's are blue-ish green, right? OR is it blue? Or is it green? I cannot tell for some reason. I would call the gen 2 green if someone asked me what color it is. Am I wrong?

Do you know what color I should be looking for from what car to avoid the color interpretation? Contour, Thunderbird. '93 Cobra. How did you know you had the right color from a broken one? Is swapping the colors hard to do?

Does the CD deck play CD-R's?

I call 2nd gen lighting "blue" even though it's closer to teal. The 1st gen green is very green. Here are some good pics to tell the difference:

It'***** or miss on what cars had what colors, though most cars from the early to mid 90s all used blue. I know the 93 and older mustangs are green and the later Contours are green. If the seller cannot tell you I usually try to find a car like it came out of for sale on ebay and see if there is a shot of it with the display on. Most of the blue ones I have found have had the clock but that won't matter if you just swapping over parts to a non clock one. Changing one over is easy: pop the face off (2 screws at the most) and then take the board off the pace (5 or so screws), be carful to not knock the buttons out. The button color is done with a big colored overlay and the display lense will just pop out. The one I have plays CDRs just fine.

Okay... it makes sense with the pics up there. Thanks! I really would like the display to be blue to match. I think I may have a difficult time finding blue though. The units on ebay are usually not lit. I did find an Aspire unit that looks identical to the one pictured above. Did they really use these units in an Aspire???

Does the yellow or white line under the word "POWER" on the power button indicate the likelyhood of the display color to be green or blue?

Thanks for the info Jelloslug. I was going to buy a slave cd and all the wiring before I read this thread. I bought a '99 SVT Contour CD unit with four 6x8 OEM speakers for $98 on ebay. I like the idea of having the tray below the radio and function of the redundent switch. I realize now that the display will be green from what you told me. Blue seems to be a difficult item to find.
