Anyone install larger exhaust tips like 4"? I'm very close to getting a couple of Flowmaster Super 40 Series mufflers and want to install larger tips. I found some from Borla and Magnaflow but they're like $80-$100 a piece, crazy!! I like the look of the factory tips: angle cut, rolled edge, double-wall, etc.

Don't have any good pics but I have Pypes, 304 stainless but I got black since the stock tips seemed to get black with carbon too quick. Was around $80 for the pair the polished ones were cheaper.

Looked it up part number EVT52B take off the B for polished.

In both cases that should ne inside diameter yes. I have stock exhaust besides the tips, shop cut of the stock tips and these slipped on and they welded right up.

So if the muffler has 2.25 Inlet & Outlet, do I need to get 2.5 Inlet on the tips or will the 2.25 Inlet tip work? And I'm having mine welded on.

I have always been told that chambered mufflers on a FI were a no-no.

2.5" should slip over 2.25" pipe. If you are having a shop do it they should be able to work with either though.

Man I owe you a beer or case! You are correct my friend! Saved me a couple hundred dollars! What muffler should I look at now?

No worries bro. I was like, "WAIT!" Every FI car I have ever had I put Magnaflows on. They are quiet at idle and cruise (which I dig) and sound good and kinda loud with you put the loud pedal down.

From my research, the SHO doesn't need a full cat back. We know DP's are worth it, however anything past that is mainly for sound.

I personally would run this. Take your factory mufflers out, throw these in and put whatever tips you want.

OK time out now. I just got an email from Flowmaster manger of development and he says it's not true. Also mentioned a lot of tracks are starting to require chamber mufflers. So now I'm lost!

This is a great thread too. I learned some stuff.....

http://www.syty.net/forums/forum/sy...7-flowmaster-mufflers-on-turbocharged-engines

"flowmaster mufflers (or any chambered muffler for that matter) present added backpressure by adding deflections inside the muffler. In any turbocharged application, back pressure post turbine is unwanted (as it applies to maximum power). You can add back pressure in moderation to help reduce lag, but once the engine starts breathing deeply, back pressure chokes the turbine wheel."

I appreciate your comments, help, and links! It all sounds convincing enough that I'm going to error on side of caution and get magnaflow or something else. Thank you!
