I've resolved a number of issues thanks to all of you on the boards:hail:

But there still is a "surging" between 50 - 55mph. The car hammers out of the hole without hesitation ( except for the occasional TC squeal ) and runs fine at other speeds.

Any ideas? Time to change the fuel filter or could this be a trans issue? If it's the trans, I have a great parts car available!

thanks!

Push the vent button in the EATC and see if that helps. Or else just hit off too...

Yea. Either way will shut off the AC compressor I believe. At highway speeds with the AC on this is why the RPM's go up and down.

by the way, EATC = electronic automatic temperature control

I get this same similar surge but only in drive at speeds closer to 30-40 mph.
Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

Could very well be the sign of the torque convertor going bad. If you manually shift into 2 does the surging still happen?

I tried driving in 2nd and didn't notice the surging, but what does that mean? At 149K the TC is suspect, but why would the car launch hard from a dig?

i dunno if its anything similar, but i had a surge at coasting speeds in my old 95 (i realise you're asking about a g3 not a g2).. turned out the sparkplug wires were getting old/worn out. replaced them and the plugs and it went away...

sorry to dredge this one up again, but I'm still living with this issue.

The cars starts fine, idles down nice and smooth.

I'd like to rule out coil packs and plugs.

Any ideas?

if it were plugs and coils you would notice a misfire. not really any surging. Have you tried to reset the computer? If not try that for starters. unhook the battery for a little while, or overnight and when you go to work in the morning see what happens.

No hijacking intended, but i have a quick question. my 1-2 shift is ridiculously hard, the only way to prevent it is the start in second, or floor it from a stop.

My concern is, instead of a lone hard **** forward, it feels like the engine rocks, i.e., I feel the thud forward and then I feel a thud backwards. Both of these are easily heard

Could this be attributed to other things?

I would say its shifting so hard its rocking the drivetrain. Possibly broken motor mount or something may be causing it to be very defined. I also have the really hard 1-2 shift in my 93, but its been there for like 60k miles. The only way I avoid it is, well I dont, just shift to second first lol.
