Ok so my engine is seized up. Being that I only have minimal internal engine knowledge I was curious about something.

Is it possible to buy new pistons, rings, etc, etc, etc... and take mine apart and put all new parts in with new cams, seals.. the whole damn works and not have to "bore-out" my engine to rebuild it? Basically I want to take out the step that requires me to take it somewhere and have them rebuild it cause I have the time, the tools, and the garage here.

Like it overheated and we think that is what caused the total seize up but i really want to tear this thing apart and put all new stuff inside, but being that i have very minimal knowledge and i would be learning as I go... is what im asking possible? I would rather do it myself cause i have the desire to learn everything about my SHO. So in summary, can i put all new parts in my engine block or do you actually have to get it bored out and redone with the parts to fit the new size.

I hope that makes sense of what i was trying to ask.

You can find these cars with ok motors in a junkyard, the internet. Take a peek. Don't get into a rebuild if you don't have experience as a mech. If you have this experience, then you would know you are up against all odds if infact it siezed up. It will be far cheaper to find a old-good running oil burner SHO motor and do a ring job to it. These motors are expensive to fix. $4000 or much more to do it right. There are other opitions. You have to ask yourself is it worht it?

Not to discourage you but unless you have PLENTY of free time and money I would just go get a running, healthy 3.2 motor and drop it in. If your block is seized then your cylinder walls I would assume are destroyed. The only safe way to do it to my knowledge is bore the block (maybe $400 to bore and prep), new pistons and rings ($750 or so there), another used crank, new wrist pins, bearings, etc. etc. You'll be doing a whole lot of swapping of parts over (especially if you can't find someone with a good crank to sell you) and I found the hard way that it's a tough, expensive job.

I yanked my 3.0 out because I had a bad CPS, bad/leaky water pump, bad front and rear main seals, bad oil pan seals, bad valve stem seals, etc. I used it as an excuse to get a 3.2 to drop in. Well the 3.2 block I bought had pitted walls so I had had to bore the walls from 92mm to 93mm, hone them, order new pistons and rings, polish the crank, add new bearings, the WHOLE NINE YARDS. It took me 7 months to disassemble everything, get the parts I ordered in, and get the machinist to finally do my block and head work. Several thousand dollars and 10 months later I finally have the motor in and together (can't get it started yet though).

Anyhow.... again, it's a lot of money and work. Just find yourself a low mileage 3.0 or 3.2 and swap the parts off your 3.0 to the 3.2 and call it done. You won't regret it. Don't spend a few thousand in repairing the old 3.0 when you can get a good 3.2 for less than $1k. Hope that helps man and good luck with your decision making. Let us know what route you go!

ya, Don't discourage him.

Go rebiuld it. Talk to engine shops. Ask about their services.

If you overheated the engine really bad, it may not be rebuildable. The only way to know for sure is to take it to a machine shop and have it checked out.

Call around, ask them about their services. Tell them what happened and get their opinions. Most will say "bring it in and let us check it out".

Either way the engine will have to come out.

Once it's out you will have 2 options. Tear it down and see what is damaged yourself and have the block checked out or...

Take the whole engine to the machine shop and have THEM tear it down and tell you what you blew up. Have them check the blocks and heads for cracks and warpage.

According to your discription (and I paraphrase) "I overheated it to the red and the red oil light came on and stayed on" It sounds like your oil lost the good fight against thermal breakdown and allowed a spun/stacked bearing. You may get off with a crank grinding and oversized (thicker) bearings.

Like mentioned here: It really depends on what you mean (or how) it was seized.
