I just purchased a 93 SHO and was thinking to go the safe route and do an engine rebuild the car has 139,100 miles on it and still runs strong but has a slight knock so im thinking to do it now to be safe before it gets worse and does any serious damage.. just curious how much it might cost.. i live in the surprise, az which is just west of phoenix.. anyone know of any good shops

Rod bearings. If you replace them now you can save yourself a rebuild, let alone the whole spun bearing nightmare.

140k is barely broken in with these engines.

The good news is, this is one of the few cars where you can rebuild the components while it is still in the car. You leave the pistons, rings, con. rods, and main bearings alone. You leave the heads on the engine.
You tighten up or replace your main rear seal, and change the rod bearings (your noise). Then you do the top and front 60K.
Taking the motor out and delivering it to a shop to rebuild is not necessary.
The motors are so well built and balanced in the first place that a shop is not going to improve them.

If your 93 is an automatic, you would be better off considering a rebuild on it at a shop, as chances are, it could use it.

Check your rod bearings, timing belt tensioner, and timing chain tensioners.

Replace/service those and your knock should go away.
