ok i had this posted but i made it a long post that no one probably wanted to read through, heres a recap in better order, please read it all, as it goes in the order that i figured the stuff out.
just got this '91 sho, just popped the hood about 5 minutes ago, all i know is it turns over and doesn't start, and he says he had it running once then never again (he bought it at auction), let me know some stuff to look into eh.

*update* ok so far i have confirmed that the timing belt is not broken, it has spark, has fuel, timing chain is good, compression on 4 is 0! 5 is 0! and 6 was 90lb, didn't test 1,2,3 yet. engine doesn't run at all...just turns over slowly, battery is fully charged. perhaps the starter is tired but it should still start.... but i'm getting no compression, i really don't feel like pullin the engine down to the heads but i guess that'll be this weekends project...be that much easier to put stuff from the engine on ebay. the sho plus is goin to be a parts plus soon the way it's goin.it gives no `warnings`, just cranks slowly compared to my '89 sho, and doesn't bother to start. i took the top timing cover off and the belt was off by 1 tooth (but no teeth are off the belt, it looks new actually), so i set it dead on, so the timing is perfect, it has spark, it has gas, but doesn't have compression, guess i'll start tearing into the engine soon...where can i get some Cheap intake gaskets since i gotta pull the intake tomorrow..

i pulled the intake and the front valve cover, looks good... so it must be either headgasket or a cracked head, or rings, not sure if i really feel like pulling the heads... Oh and the car was in a small crash, to the front right side, which would explain the missing fiberglass hood.

I think your timing is off....or still is off. :bonk:

Something isn't right if you have ZERO compression in more than one cylinder.

If you find its not the timing, I think I would be looking for a 3.2 to put those 3.0 cams in. :D

I can tell by the pic that every one of those cylinders has valves that are somewhat open. The cam lobes are pressing on the springs. But, if you don't beleive the timing is off, try this.

Before you rip off your heads and do something completely unnecessary, do a LEAKDOWN at TDC compression stroke. You will hear the air coming out. These are the places you will hear hissing:

Exhaust Pipe: burnt valve(s) or OPEN valves (unlikely that ALL of the valves are burnt, so if they are all open at TDC compression stroke, your timing is off)

Intake or Throttle Body: burnt valves (from detonation perhaps, but not very likely) or OPEN valves. Same thing as the exhaust valves.

Both Intake and Exhaust Pipe: your timing is off

Oil Fill cap or Dipstick: you have serious blowby (because you have no comp) and it is time for a full rebuild and overhaul. Might want to consider an engine swap.

I'm not trying to be insulting, but you have to remember that the camshaft(s) turns HALF the speed of the crank. It takes 720 degrees of crank rotation for ONE full cycle. I still think your timing is off.

Hope this helps. Use the leakdown. The leakdown test is your firend. :D

i don't have a leakdown tester...they're expensive, no autozones here to rent it to me :( to me in the pic it looks as though: 1 is just comin off intake and exhaust is on it's way down, 2 intake is down and exhaust is up, 3 intake is on it's way down and exhaust is on it's way up..? perhaps i set the timing incorrectly, is there a tutorial on doing it so i can retrace my steps and check it out? i'd love for you to be right because as i said, i don't want to rip into the engine, once i do that...everything i take off meets my friend Mr. Ebay. car isn't worth it to me to put money in to.

A chilton's should have the correct way to set up the timing. Check SHOtimes.com too. If you contact Mike at MidwestSHO or Fred a NESHO, I'm sure both would be very willing to help. I have yet to set the timing on an SHO, so it's hard for me to help out, especially without seeing the car.

as i was cutting off the exhaust today to put it on the red car (hacksaw), took me about 30 minutes to cut through the pipe, i was like what the ****? finally got it out/off, and the exhaust was just full of crap from the cat, and something that i'm not sure what it was (looks kind of like...a steel wash cloth heh) so i hooked my 6hp shopvac up to it and got all the crap out, pulled the `steel rag` out, and the exhaust actually had some flow! SO i put the whole damn car back together, but still no start, but it does turn over easier/faster.

Too bad you're in Oregon. I would have loved to help. I say keep trying before you part it. I would've taken it off your hands, but that's too far to drive for a non-running SHO. ****, my SHO doesn't go past the driveway right now!
