I just searched about bad engine mounts and after reading about symptoms and stuff i'm wondering if my problem could be something more. My engine definetly moves, about and inch or two with the parking brake on and pushing it in foward and reverse, however, the shifter is also getting much looser. I can feel the shifter moving foward and back as i accelerate and coast, and finding each gear is a little harder/less precise. So does this sound like just the engine and transmission mounts or that plus anything else? What do you guys think and can anything bad happen by driving it like this for a little while? Thanks for any help

Bad engine mounts would cause your shifter to move as well because the rod shifter is bolted directly to your drivetrain.

Alright so does this mean i've got a good possibility of breaking something? I think i'm gonna try strapping the engine down somehow until i can get new mounts

At 145K the MM's & SFB's are past their service life if they are original! You could break the DIS on the frt pass strut tower brkt, tweak the 'Y'pipe to catback ******, break the rod shifter tranny boss, tweak the PS hardlines & inner tie rod ends to name a few. Do not drive it hard or you will add to the items that NEED to be replaced now! I have a 'fix' for you. PM or call me.

You really don't want to ignore this problem. The motor mounts and subframe bushings are what let things move around. I recommend you go ahead and change them. None are overly expensive. Do a search and you can find information about updating to '96 bushings for about $100. Look here http://www.bonnefinstudios.com/kwb/automotive/tech/mounts.htm to find out how to fix or replac eyour motor mounts with reinforced ones. None of this is particularly difficult to do.

Thanks guys, even though i'm 1300 miles from home i still managed to change my front mount tonight, and found that the support bar for the rod shifter broke in half. I got that temporarily held together with pvc and clamps. Even with that broken it still feels 100 times better.
