I have a 2010 Ford Taurus SHO with around 111,000 miles and recently have had a little knock. It's super weird though because I can hear it for a split second when I start the car sometimes, but it happens consistently if I am in manual mode and at a low rpm. We hooked it up to the computer and the fuel gages honestly looked fine. We are kind of thinking it might be a spark knock like there's something wrong with the detonation, or perhaps something wrong with the tune. There is just an SCT flash tune on it right now. I was hoping you guys could help or point me in the right direction.

201 BC or AD? How many miles? Have you looked at the upper and/or lower trans mounts? Have you had coils/plugs done?

Step one should be taking the sct canned tune off of it. If it still does it, I'd be looking at your exhaust. It almost sounds like something on it is rattling to me.

What are the error codes? Is there a way to flash back to stock clear codes and run it and see what pops up? Is this SCT tune a canned tune or used by a tuner for a custom one? Do you have a stock MAP or does the tune require 2.5 or 3.0?

If there is a misfire or anything else making afr issues it should pop a code. See if you can get a stock tune back on there and see if it makes a difference.
Is it a knocking noise or is it engine knock that makes a difference in how it runs? If it is just noise, I would look at exhaust pipes, fasteners, heat shields etc as mentioned by ridered74 above. Also maybe loose end links or something

Did he ever figure out what the k locking noise was, I've got the exact same noise going on, I've confirmed it's not internal to the engine with a stethoscope, Mines very prominent between 1000-2500 rpm, it does change with rpm however, but I've listened to it being revved with the stethoscope and the only noise I can hear is a slight pinging noise that's out of sync with the knock noise, I'm leaning towards mine being exhaust related at that's the only place I can hear it with the stethoscope.

I've narrowed mine down somemore, it was a sneaky Lil bugger but it's quite obvious when touching or listening to the vvt solanoid with a stethoscope, it started the rattle/knock after changing the vvt solanoid and seal on the valve cover"it was leaking" so Im assuming it's possibly my cam phaser on the front bank, which I don't look forward to replacing.

I guess that timing chain the previous owner replaced might of not included all the parts? Sorry to hear this, this car and anything inside the front engine cover is a PITA and expensive.
