I have an MTX with 110,000 on it. The other day out of the blue my temp started rising and went past the 'N'. I noticed this as I was going into my garage, stopped on the hill and pressed the button for the door to open. Then I started and stalled. I haven't stalled in a real long time and I'm not sure if this was due to the engine or me. The temp was passed the 'N' and then I went into my garage and the oil light flickered and the engine shut off. My oil light has never flickered before, which leads me to beileve it only flickered on because the temperature was so high.

So I'm thinking it could be: Thermostat, temp sender, ECT, relay, or fan motor. Anything else?

I had my temp sender and thermostat replaced in December.

I notice my fan doesn't turn on, but when I turn it whith my thumb (the car is off - then the next blade slices my thumb...) it does move, so it isn't stuck. But it doesn't spin very long, but I'm guessing that is because it is connected to the motor which is stopping it?

When I turn on my AC the fan doesn't turn on, same with defrost.

How can I supply direct voltage to the fan motor to see if it turns?

When I do the KOEO test, I hear the clicking but the fan does not come on...

Does anyone know what this could be, or do you need more information?

TIA, Joe

Defiantly sounds like the fan is your issue. Either the relay in the IRCM or the fan motor itself needs attention. You can try to power the fan from the battery and see if it runs this will eliminate or determine one of the two possible problems.

I just got through with dealing with this, sounds like the brushes in the fan have $#!t themselves. Make sure if you order a new fan motor that the mounting tabs on the new motor match up with the shroud. I had to take apart my old DC motor and after tracking down the right size carbon/graphite brushes and carfully reassembling the motor and fan assembly I'm now cool again.

If the mounts match NAPA has the fan for something like $70.00. buy it and don't look back.

How can I power the fan from the battery? What kind of wire should I use and what should I connect this wire to?

At NAPA what should I look for, a fan motor, or the fan and the motor?

just jump any wire from the positive side and the negative side of you battery into the connection on the fan, if it doesn't kick on, your fan is toast. either contact someone who has a spare cheap or go buy a new one. It's a one assembly setup, ask the guy @Napa for a fan motor for your SHO, its one huge setup.

I ordered a radiator fan motor for my exact car... and it was totally different. There was a rectange end on the metal piece and no rod sticking through it to attach to the fan. Also the connection was totally different. So I got my money back and went down the street to advance auto parts. They had one, instead of 80 it was 130 and I was looking at it online and they don't seem to have the same thing either. Same thing with Napa. Whats up with this?! Ford doesn't sell just the motor, but the motor, fan, and shroud as one for $598! So this isn't an option. I guess I will go to a junkyard and get a whole new assembly.

what year and tranmission is your car? I might have a spare fan for ya. I believe I have an 89-93 MTX fan and a 93-95 ATX fan in the garage.

Netviper, I have a 94 MTX. I have already checked autozone, advanced auto parts, napa, and car quest. They all have the wrong one. Wrong plug and wrong rod that connects to the fan. They say it's the right one, but it isn't. I have searched lots of junkyards, and have yet to find a 5 speed SHO. The only place I have left is to check the forums. Now I could be wrong, but I think the 94-95 mtx is different from the 93 mtx? Automatics are two fans right? If you want I can take a picture of the fan motor for comparison.

PS: Can't wait to install the ALSFB!

Just for future reference: If you can't get the bolt out of the shroud, drill it out with 13/64" drill bit and then re-thread it with a tap that is also 13/64"
This is the exact size of the original thread. If you need to buy new bolts I think it is an M6 size. That's all I can remember about the size. It did come in a brown labeled box if that would help.
