Does anyone else hear a light clatter noise from the engine when driving around, mainly when accelerating lightly?

I'm thinking this may be a normal sound for a high pressure direct injection motor (thinking along the lines of diesel engines to a point) but wanted to verify with other owners.

Thanks

No clatter here. I do get a little whine under light/moderate acceleration. I always thought it was/is the turbos and like the sound. :) Go further down on the gas and it goes away so I'm thinking it's the wastegates letting some of that extra pressure out.

The only other noises I hear are some ticking at idle if I'm outside the car. I think this has to be the high pressure fuel pump though. It's always been there.

Maybe that is a better way to describe it. It's almost a light ticking noise but I hear it when I'm lightly accelerating inside the car. At first I thought it might possibly be a small exhaust leak.

I hear the whine down low which I've chalked up to the turbos as well. I find it funny they do everything they can to silence the turbo whistle but in the process they've muffled it in to sounding like a whine.

You should hear no noise while accelerating.. Are you running a tune? Whose? and what fuel are are you running? whats the temp outside?

I did have some clatter on start up but that was also from running the breakin oil to 5k, it was a bit thin on the drain but that noise has gone away since the oil change.

The ticking that you hear at idle is not the fuel pump but injector click and very normal..

No tunes. Completely stock. Premium fuel. Temps outside have been between 50-95* with no difference between the noise and the temps.

I think it's injector noise I'm hearing at light throttle I'm just trying to determine if that's normal. It takes away from the otherwise smoothness of the engine.

If that's persistent, I'd definitely have it checked out. At one point I thought I heard something like that, but it turned out to be a weird resonance from a particular song I was playing. :)

Does the engine seem to get bogged down when you hear this noise, like somethings holding it back?

Thats the noise I have been hearing too Kirk. I just did my oil change last weekend. Hopefully it'll be gone since the break in oil is has been changed. I just haven't driven it since though. What kind of oil did you go with? I put Mobil 1 in mine.

No, it doesn't bog down.

It's probably a normal noise. I really do think I'm just hearing part of the injection system and it's normal.

The High pressure Direct Injection fuel pump on top of the motor is very noisy.

This is why if you look at the engine 'Beauty Cover', it has TONS of insulation on it, to quell the noise from the DI Pump.

86si where in Lincoln do you live! I've only seen one 2010 SHO here so far and it was at the airport parking garage. Not sure if it was you? It was red.

There are two black 2010 SHOs on the south end of Lincoln, one being his. I haven't seen a red one around here.

I saw that other black SHO in our area last night for the first time. Must live somewhere around the 27th and Old Chenney area.

They still use breakin oil?

I don't think so - neither the book or the dealer made any mention of a special oil. Both said change at 7,500 miles. I would have thought if it needed to be changed sooner they would have said. My guess is they are using Motorcraft semi-synthetic in the factory fill. Maybe with a few more wear additives but I think the days of a special oil are over.

I'm at 7,100 and it goes in for its first oil change Monday.

I changed mine at 4300 when I started getting a clatter at startup. Noise went away.

Rotated tires at 5K.

I know the noise, it is like a clatter upon light accel and sometimes decel. I had two factory engineers listen to it at the dealer, which btw was scheduled by my dealer, and it was finally diagosed as a bad baffle (I think) in the exhaust below the exhaust manifold. They fixed it, not sure how but it has never come back and that was 4 months ago.
