On my 94 atx, Right below my EGR valve there are two small holes. The larger diameter hole puts out hot air which is turning my brake fluid resovoir black. Am I missing something? It seems like when you plug the holes up the CEL goes off after restarting the engine. I get the code 332 and the CEL comes and goes. Anybody have an Idea?

Hmm...maybe I described that wrong.....The EGR valve was replaced just before I bought the car.....The previous owner thought that it would solve the problem.....Looking at other engine bay's on the forum I cannot tell if ther was suppose to be some kind of sensor or plug....But I did notice that nobody else had the black brake fluid reovoir....It turned black due to the hot air coming from the two holes in the EGR tube, just below the egr valve.

Do you mean where the DPFE sensor would connect to the exhaust with the two fat short silicone hoses?

I have been there. there is a cover with a lil round peice goes in the hole blowing air out and the other hole is threaded for a screww that is suppose to go through the cover and hold it on the EGR.
A new EGR valve doesn't come with it and you have to use the old one. I bet he didn't know about that and left it off. Ask if he still has the old one or you may have to go hunting. It is held on with a Torx screw if I remember correctly. You maybe able to just get some Magnum steel or maybe it's called sonic weld "the stuff that comes in a roll that you have to mix the center with the outer" and stuff in the hole and let it set up.
Whatever you do you will have to plug that hole some how so that the EGR will work correctly.

does it affect fuel economy?.....

Perhaps slightly. EGR's main function is to route a small amount of exhaust gas into the combustion chamber. This small amount cools (or inhibits the maximum tempature) of the combustion gasses. This intern reduces NOx emissions, by quite a bit too.

Hmm.....So that would mean if I was in a emissions inspected county or state I would probably fail......Not good......My county starts emissions test in a couple of months.......

any suggestions for cleaning an EGR valve while its on the intake manifold?

Or is it a remove only to clean type thing? my ATX is throwing a 327 code.

A 327 code is more likely an unplugged or defective DPFE sensor. Test the harness and the PCM inputs by using the following procedure from the PCED manual:

///quote

DTC 327 indicates that the PFE/DPFE sensor signal is less than the Self Test minimum value of 0.2 volt.

Possible causes:

-- Damaged PFE/DPFE sensor.

-- Open harness circuits.

-- Shorted harness circuits.

-- Damaged PCM.

l Key off.

l Disconnect PFE/DPFE sensor.

l Jumper VREF circuit to PFE/DPFE circuit at PFE/DPFE sensor vehicle harness connector.

l Rerun Key On, Engine Off (KOEO) Self-Test.

NOTE:
If no DTC's are generated, immediately remove jumper and go directly to Step «DL4».

l Is DTC 337 present (ignore all other DTC's)?

Yes
REPLACE PFE/DPFE sensor.
REMOVE jumper.
RERUN «Quick Test».

No
REMOVE jumper.
GO to «DL2».

///endquote

If you need additional steps posted, let us know.

sorry?

that was fairly complicated... lol

rather technical...

Is the Valve and the sensor the same piece?

where is the sensor located?

thanks

ok.. i swapped the sensor out of a 1994 ATX that had no codes.. and the code went away.!

Now all i am curious about.. could a faulty EGR pressure valve sensor cause me to have abnormally high NOx emissions? (my test was almost 3x)

It may be sticking. you did say the guy put a new one on so maybe it has to do with that hole beeing open. have you closed it off yet? Then have it tested. I think I have read about useing SeaFoam in your gas to pass emissions but this was wih Mustangs which i sold to get my SHO :thumb:

While we're one the subject of EGR valves, the pipe that goes b/t my EGR and exhaust manifold doesnt want to go into the exhaust manifold all the way. It seems like it's too short to fit properly, so the opening for it just sits halfway over the manifold opening... wierd huh? Any sugestions on fixing that?
