EGR help!!

I got a new EGR sensor a while back. I just went to Athens Ohio to visit some friends, I pop the hood and see that the brake fluid resivour has carbon stuff all over it. It is coming from two holes in the side of the metal elbow that the circular piece is connected to. I then found pics on the forum of another one that had no holes. Did I get the wrong one? Is this hurting my car? performace, gas milage? Is this normal to have holes, I dont think it can be, cause it shoots carbon stuff on the fluid holder. Please help

Not sure what holes your thinking of. The gasket is going to need hole or holes in the center that will match up with the passages for the gases to flow and for the bolt holes. Other than that there shouldn't be any. The gasket your seeing with out holes maybe from someone trying to cap it off? You may need a new gasket or to check the fastners.

If you are standing on the drivers side of the car, looking at the engine, you will see the big metal elbow that the tube connects to, then it goes into the engine. The metal disc is attached to that on the right side(back of car). On the big metal elbow that goes into the engine, there are two holes. One about the size of a pencil and the other, very small. I can feel exhaust gas come out of it when the car is on, and it throws carbon all over the brake fluid holder. So there should be no holes in the piece? Should I go get a new one? Thanks

I just helped a friend that had the same problem. The new EGR had two holes in it. Luckily, we had his old EGR and it had a small plate covering those two holes (the plate covered the top larger hole and the bottom hole is actually the screw hole to fasten the plate. His car was running rough without the plate and seemed to get better once we plugged the hole. If you don't have the old plate, you can build something yourself. It is about 1/8" thick plain flat steel. I would definitely recommend plugging the hole as the ehaust is not good on the brake resevoir, and I think it could give you a vacuum leak that could throw off the car.

I just put on a new Ford EGR valve, and I will get the refund for the one with holes in it. Thanks for the help. Aaron
