My codes tell me and that damn check engine light gleaming in my eye. That my egr valve is the culprit. My question is why? The reason I ask is because I have checked and cleaned the intake manifold and nostrils I have also checked the EGR valve doing the engine suck method. I have also checked the vaccum lines and all attatchment tubes to the exhause manifold. Yes I have cleared my keep alive memory. The check engine light only seems to come on when the outside temperature is above 50 degrees. Now onto my idle problem. My idle wants to stay around 2000 RPM. I have checked and cleaned the IAB valve have also checked TPS. The only time the idle even acts normal is when I first start it. It will idle down to normal until I start to move. Any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated. Thanks shoot

Hi there. If the EGR Position sensor is bad it will cause similar problems to a failing EGR valve. What is the exact code that you are getting? I would venture a guess that the sensor is bad even though the valve itself it good.

The code would happen to be 33 and it only comes up on the KOER side of the test.Where abouts would this EGR position sensor be located at.Sorry to sound so confused this is the only one of my SHO's that has this stupid emissions bullsh#$%t, if you get my frustration

The operation of the EGR valve is monitored by the EGR pressure sensor. This sensor is mounted on the rear of the intake manifold and is the rectangular metal box with the two pressure lines connected to the EGR tube. If there is any blockage in the EGR path from the exhaust manifold to the nostrils the pressure sensor will not be able to determine if the EGR valve is opening. Have you confirmed that there is a clear path all the way from the port where the EGR bolts onto to the nostrils inside the intake maifold? You can remove the 8mm Allen headed plug at the rear of the intake just behind the EGR mounting ****** and install a rubber hose to blow through. The air that you breathe should blow freely through the nostrils.

33 ALL - (O, M) EGR did not open/ respond during test or if memory code, did not open intermittently

If you have checked the Valve itself and all the vaccum connections, then my money is on the sensor. I've gone through two of them.

The tube that comes off the exhaust and runs up to the egr valve has two samll tubes which are only visable at the top end and connect into the EGR sensor. The two tubes enter the main tube that feeds the egr valve where they terminate as two ports inside the main tube. As the exhaust gas flows through the tube the two ports sense the pressure diffrence between exhaust pressure and static pressure. If there is any restriction to the flow it may cause the sensor to read incorrectly. Its a bitch to clean as well.

Thanks for all the information guys I have not checked the tubes from the sensor to the egr tube itself I will try this and hopefully that damn light will start behaving itself. That takes care of the check engine light question any help with my Idle question from my original posting would be greatly accepted and thanks once again.
