ECT...Where?

So I picked up the SU201 Coolant Temperature sender at Autozone today. Only problem is I can't seem to find it's home!?

Looking at the thermostat I see a small brass nut a with a wire pluged into it. I thought that this was the ECT...

My ECT (the one I just picked up today at the store) looks like this

It is quite a lot bigger than the thing I was looking at in my engine bay.

SO...Am I looking at the wrong thing or did I get the wrong part? Could someone tell me where the ECT is if I am not looking in the correct place?

Its on the other side of the thermostat housing.

You bought the correct sensor from AZ.

The ECT is the gray sensor on the right side of the water outlet in this photo.

If your old sensor is all plastic, BEWARE!. If it breaks instead of screwing out properly, you are screwed.

Good luck getting to it. I couldnt with my big hands. Took it to a tune up shop. And they passed on the job.

FWIW, if you use a deep-well, 1" hex socket, you should have no problems with getting the old ECT sensor out or the new one in. I tried several other tools on my ECT before finally resorting to my friend's 1" socket with 1/2" drive. Let's just say I wish I had tried it sooner. :headbang:
