So I got a new exhaust system put on a few weeks ago. Been trying to keep them clean. Noticed that the inside of the tips were dark instead of chrome. Grabbed a paper towel. DAMN.. This truly is a dirty engine.. 2 weeks and the new mufflers are BLACK. I hear a lot of problems are related to the engine getting full of junk. I personally haven't had any issues but just thought I'd share!

That is dirty. I used to get a little on the bottom of the stock tips where they roll around. One mark from each side after a hundred or so miles.

Yes, I too have noticed hoiw much black residue gets stuck in the exhaust tips. It doesn't take long after wiping it out, for it to return. It does seem like a normal thing for these engines though.

I just wiped mine out this weekend. They get blacked out in about a week of normal driving. Very annoying when you want the tips to shine like new!

Yeah that was just a dry paper towel. Cleaned them right up. But it was fresh and wasn't burned on. My stock tips were pretty black inside too. Just amazed me how much there was within 2 weeks and around 400 miles. I do hot rod around a lot so i'm sure that doesn't help my case. After a recent 700 mile trip they hardly had anything on them, so definitely doesn't help driving it hard.

I actually don't mine the dirty tips. Outside should be clean, but I think the carboned up tips look ok. I wiped mine out once and I actually hated how it looked so I waited for it to blacken up again and never wiped the insides again.

Heavy amounts of soot are common due to turbocharging. If memory serves, once the soot is removed you can apply Pam to make is easier to clean (making sure to reapply Pam once you've wiped).

Do these cars take E85? I noticed that when I ran E85 in my turbo regal it was impossible to keep them clean!

2013+ yes, without modification, mixed with regular, I think up to a proven E content of 35-40% so far. Full-on E85 requires fuel system modifications.
