I decided to check the engine codes on my 90. I came up with an ok (11) for the kieo but then there was 19,91 stored? THen with the engine running it came up with a 77? (failed goose test WTF) then the test I was sure I would pass the cylinder balance it gave me 30 and 40 for so cylinders 3 and 4 are bad apparently? the engine idles fine though. what does the cylinder balance test? what does it mean? i know the valve cover hex bolts or whatever those are squirt out oil and the valve covers are leaking like an M'Fer. could this have something to do with it. Also I am getting a weird noise from the timing cover I have to investigate. Could this be related (bad cylinders because of bad timing????? Thanks very much

Here are what your codes came up with.:

11 - System checks OK - self evident

19 - No Vehicle Power (pins 37 + 57) or bad PCM Erratic idle during test (reset throttle & retest) Electronic ignition Cylinder ID sensor/circuit problem - Not sure, not use to Gen I codes

77 - System did not receive "goose" test - means you did not put the gas peddal to the floor during the begining of KOER. So nothing to worry about there.

91 - System running lean Transmission SS 1 circuit/solenoid problem - Judging by your leaking valve covers, that would cause a lean condition and a poor running engine.

You might want to check out www.midwestsho.com on comprehensive instructions on how to do each test and what the actual meanings are.

What did you think about the codes for the bad cylinders? do you think I might have a problem there?? And what are you supposed to do floor the engine when you start it on a koer?? i did give it a little gas

Could be spark plugs, wires, the coil, or you could have a compression problem. When was the last time you replaced plugs wires? Is there oil in the spark tubes? I would also replace the valve cover gaskets sense they are leaking pretty bad.

Here is step by step how to do the KOER and KOEO, plus cylinder balance test and sensor test!

It looks like there might be oil squirting out of those rubber grommets in the spark plug galleries. Does this mean the engine is toast?? I can still beat other cars. I don't know what the **** to do. I have to reseal the valve covers, open the timing cover and see if there is a loose pulley or some ****. I have to replace the plugs and wires. I think The guy before that supposedly did a 60k only replaced the plugs. I friend of mine said Because there were still numbers on the motorcraft wires that they were factory. IS THIS TRUE. I am scared to drive this car for fear that I will break it but it is such a great car. I think you all know what i mean ; )

Settle down, the engine is fine. This is a common problem with the SHO. You are going to have to pull the intake off, which is pretty easy, just time consuming to get all the bolts. Get the Felpro gasket kit:FELPRO VS50378R $71.99 (from Auto Zone) and you are going to have to replace the plugs and wires sense they are now toast.

You can do some reading HERE!

Motorcraft wires are numbered so those could have been replaced. Make sure to remove all the oil before pulling the plugs, you don't want that stuff in your cylinders.
