I was at the pick-n-pull the other day getting a part for my wife's Gen 3 slo when I looked next to the car I'm pulling a part off of and see a Gen 1 mocha SHO which was still fairly intact. BTW this is in Denver Colorado. My shifter cable bushing broke a few years back and this one still had-made my day.Now my control module in my 89 is electronic.I noticed the one in the salvage yard appeared manual. I thought all shos came with EATC. Anyway, mine works but the led light doesn't work anymore. Could I swap this non eatc for mine-just plug and play? Any help is appreciated.

I believe that there are armored cables running from the control knobs, that snake down into the HVAC air plenum and perform the adjustments that our electronic gizmos do with wires and servos.
If you got everything from the parts car, then you could do the swap. I would even get the plenum to be sure.

the blend door actuator is different between eatc and manual control, so you need to change all those parts over.

btw, which yard?

It's the U-Pull and Pay at Tower and Colfax. Found a 93 ATX as well but engine is gone out of that one.

Why would you wanna change the 89 ECC? IMO it is the BEST of all versions because it is VERY European vith the fan adjustment **** and the option of letting you choose A/C or not in any mode unlike the later years. More intuiative and better than the later ones I think. Could you post a pik so I can get all googly eyed?

Most '89's had manual controls.

You can check my classified ad for a replacement EATC for the 1989 model, I bet it will be cheaper than you think. :)

I have a couple of working ones.

ISHOU, for the cost of shipping, Ill send you one.

But really, it sounds like all you need to do is replace the backlight. That is fairly easy to do.

Ill tell you why....

When you have one or two vac. leaks in the dash, EVERYTHING goes wonky.

Ive been chasing a vac leak in mine for years.

I will be swapping the entire dash out for one with the manual controls soon. Im tired of not having vents. When you have a vac leak it defaults to the defrosters.

I always thought the manual knobs also had vac lines?

I will post a picture later of this part that was not working in my 89, it routed all of the air to the defrost vents. It's under the glove box, on the left side. It's gold in color, with a little rod sticking out connected to something else. It also has a vacuum line connected to it, if I'm not mistaken. I'll shoot ya a PM when I have a little time to get to this.

Please do!

I was under the belief that the manual controls used cables to actuate all of the doors. I have yet to look at the manual control dash I have though to confirm.

I know about the vac. switch that actuates the VENT/DEFROST door. Right now I have it removed and "fixed" with a coat hanger and zip tie to get air out the vents. :nut:

So I have vents, but I really dont want to have to peel the glovebox open, dump everything on the floor, stand on my head, and "fix" that blend door every time I want to switch between vent and defrost, eh? :laugh_ti:

Manual controls used the cables for just for the hot/cold control (the blend door). The rest were vacuum controls.
BTW, the vent and defrost valve (or at least the connection) is on the bottom of the plenum, basically way under the glovebox. I remember a passenger knocked that line off on mine once. Easy fix.
