Trying to figure out my no heat issue in my 92. Tried diagnostic test but only get an 02 error code displayed. Thinking blend door, maybe a bad eatc?

This is the test you did on the EATC? Sounds like it is pointing to a bad blend door alright per this thread.

Heard any ratcheting/clicking sounds from behind the dash? Heat ever worked? Coolant/coolant level is OK? Heater hoses hot when engine warmed up?

Yup thats the one. No noises from the dash, coolant level is fine, and both hoses at the firewall are hot. It just blows cold, never had the heat working yet.

The blend door usually fails to the heat - on mode, but if the door itself fails (rather than the BDU), it could be anywhere, I guess.

I would try a quick EATC swap first. I suspected the blend door on my 91, but got the heat working again on monday night by trying a different EATC.

Run diagnostics on your ETAC unit. With the engine running and warm, press the OFF and FLOOR buttons at the exact same time, release, then quickly press the AUTOMATIC button once. The unit will run diagnostics on itself and then give you an error code. 00 = no errors. Let us know what it says.

To exit diagnostics press the COLD button.

they started the hard buttons mid-94, so all 95s had hard buttons from the factory. that does not mean that any 95 today will have a hard button....

1. disconnect battery ground cable.
2. pull out lower LH and lower RH instrument panel snap-on finish panel inserts. remove 8 screws retaining upper finish panel.
3. pull lower edge of upper finish panel away from instrument panel. it is best to grasp finish panel from lower LH corner and walk hands around in a clockwise direction.
4. remove 4 Torx head screws retaining control head.
5. disconnect 2 harness connectors from control assembly by depressing latches at top of connector and pulling.
6. remove 2 nuts retaining vacuum harness. pull control asm away from instrument panel.

The above is from my 94 service manual. I don't recall 8 screws on the finish panel, I only recall about 3-4, but search carefully for all of them.

I have the same issues. Vent is blowing just on the defroster location no matter what. ETAC test shows 888. This all occurred after I installed SHOnuts cams so I suspect a vacuum supply issue but it could be co-incidental?
With an 888 code could this still be a blend door actuator failure?
Where is the vacuum storage tank spoken of above in the SHO?

defrost only is a symptom of no vacuum to the eatc unit, since defrost is the default position with no vacuum applied. typically that is due to a broken fitting somewhere between the intake manifold and the eatc unit.

Where is that vacuum being picked up from? Got a picture? The shop manual is not good on this as helping me find the vacuum line to the control? Is this one of those 1/8" shiny black plastic hoses?
