I just pulled some EATC bulbs from the boneyard over here, but they are out of a soft-button EATC, and seem to be quite a bit taller than the "shorter" bulbs in my hard button EATC. Can I take out the bulb, and replace it into the old housing, or is the bulb going to be too tall and melt the button?

I don't think the bulb as it is will work, the wire connectors are in different places.

Anyone done something like this?

Thanx!

Uh...

Uh... No? I said that the bulbs I took out were from a soft button EATC. All of the buttons were pushed in...

Hopefully, I'm intelligent enough to take a hard button EATC if it was there...:oogle:

I'm going to try a transplant tomorrow.

The bulbs are not interchangable. I recently purchased a bulb for my 95 EATC and it cost me about $15 Cdn from a dealer. Do a search for a post I recently made to get the Ford part number.

I just paid a fortune for a hard button off ebay but the thing is super nice.

I am happy about it, however I would like some tips on swapping it out...i.e. how do I get the stocker out?

Plug 'n Play

Assuming it is a SHO model display, it's a plug and play thing- pull the trim off, unscrew the old one, unplug it, and yada, yada, yada!

I've got the part numbers, I ran a search for them. Thanx!

it will only work if its from a Taurus/Sable. the lincoln units and other units from expeditions etc are not plug and play without modifications....

Well,

I smell an Ebay relist brewing...

They are modifiable (if that is a word) but may be more work than you'd like. Some on the forums have them.

Good luck!

There 'may" be a way to use LED's... I used to be on a Ranger forum and they were using LED's to replace the bulbs in some of the places you wonder why Ford even did a bulb in them... For example. IN the headlite ****, in the window switch, I didn't even know it was supposed to be lit til I read the DIY on using these LED's.

well if you do get interested... I am on another forum with the same handle... www.hidplanet.com/forums

try that out, you may find yourself with new ideas with leds/hids....

the reason LEDs prolly weren't used back in the day so much, is because they weren't utilized as well, and the higher powered LEDs haven't really showcased till a few years ago.

Cam, I was mentioning for a replacement. I realize LED's aren't new, just the technology that they keep advancing with them is incredible. That way chances are you won't have to deal with it again. I chack back on there once in awail and they are always using them for more and more small bulbs that are a PITA to replace (like dash lites).
