I've put 2 sets of the cheapo Chinese made (sold by Raybestos, Wagner, etc) brake cables on my 94. The first set lasted less than a year before they started to stick and the second set is now starting to hang up. The Ford OEM cables are still available for like $125 and I have a set on order now. Avioids that smoking brake look on your SHO.

If it is one thing I don't like about the Taurus SHO, its that brake pedal contraption near the floor that runs the parking brakes. One of the rear cables is 3X longer than the other side. Even the Tempo from the same year had a better set up.
I would jump on the Ford bandwagon as well, but I am worried their stuff comes from China now too.
I can remember seeing really old e-brake cables for other cars with a grease fitting on them near the front of the cable.
I would go for that, if there was a way to do it.

I've changed them on almost every SHO car that i had and cars that had more rust in them needed cables the most and one was so bad, that in 6 month all 3 cables needed to be changed again. Before Installation I used some grease on each of these cables and that kinda helped, I think.I was thinking about making a different system for that, like, for example, e-brake handle in the middle and lines going to each caliper, making it hydraulic instead. Or another option was a system similiar to bmw cars: handle with 2 cables, one for each side.

It seems like the sping actuated rear calipers aren't helping in any way, shape or form. Those are INCREDIBLY tight to compress. I think that's our cable killer.
