Finally the material comes in three weeks later after FedEx delivers my package twice in one day to the wrong address then says it's undeliverable and ships it back to the seller. Out of one sheet of 1/4" ABS plastic I can make 3 Air-boxes. Here's what I got so far pretty much done Bolton in the car for final fitment. Here's some pics. Picture (5) I made these parts which one piece will support the bottom of the airbox theres about a 3" to 4" gap from the bottom. PPE airbox has no support on the bottom. I should be finishing up this one tomorrow. Ram air = poor mans turbo.

That's nice right there. I've gotta ask...why the complete lack of aftermarket support for this car? They're not exactly rare...

Except they are. Compare the numbers of a SHO to mustang or a f150. Far fewer on the road. Then take that number and subtract the people who don’t even know what it is other than a Taurus, then the people who have no desire to mod it. You’re left with an incredibly small market. It’s just not worth the R&D to get parts to market. The money just isn’t there. We’re lucky to get what we have. Our real only saving grace is that we share a power plant with the f150 and can take advantage of some of the crossover.

This statement is 100% correct.

I hear you guys, and compared to a mustang, yeah, these are rare. But not compared to a 3rd gen corvette, yet that car has TONS of aftermarket support. They're not rare compared to LS1/LS2 GTOs, or these days, even the WS6 trans am.

I get that a lot of 4th gen SHO owners don't mod their cars...it blows my mind. These are essentially a poor mans GTR. Kinda. Sorta. On paper, anyway. Just kinda is a culture shock for me. I've always been a Chevy guy, and even their obscure cars have huge aftermarket support. No biggy...it just kinda blows my mind that a car this awesome doesn't have more of a following. But then, I wouldn't have got mine for 12k, I guess...and I would have ended up with a 5th gen corvette, and the minutia of electrical gremlins it has. I'll take mechanical problems all day.

It's a pure numbers game. Basically they could sell 400,000 F150 cold air intakes(which conveniently has an easier design) or 5,000 SHO intakes(probably less in reality), which one makes more cents?

In the end, I enjoy seeing people come up with new parts for any motorized contraption. Let the good times roll.

3rd Gen Corvettes have a huge aftermarket because they have been around for decades. They also have conventional big block and small block Chevys with common transmissions. Those just in themselves have a massive aftermarket.

In the Phoenix metro area, I see more GTOs and WS6 cars then I do SHOs. The SHO is super rare. It wasn't advertised, and it is literally a rental car with a cool engine.

I've had mine for over three years when I got it back east in New Jersey and then in Jersey I still haven't seen none I've been out in California for 3 years and I only seen three since I've been here. And every time I'm out at a gas station i got people approaching me alot taking pictures of my car saying they never even heard of an SHO. Even over 10 years ago when I had my 89 90 93 and so on it's the same nobody even heard of it.
For me there's no aftermarket parts so I'm making them myself..

looks good, but I don't see this being cost effective for you given the time you've got invested compared to the EPP. Do you have any issues with Mike's kit you plan to correct with this?

I heard his kits was a little pain to get installed so i did some modifications plus I put a bottom support that gives it more stability that's not in Mike's kit. I also made the Box a little higher and extends out into the air scoop so it is all continuous airflow piece. I also went back to the drawing board with a bottom support and I had a nut and fabricated inside the support plus a little bit of fun with the other stuff see picture. Top part of the air scoop is done and will be going in

You look to have good fabrication skills and I like the idea of the scooped inlet. The two things I'd change on the EPP gen 2 that I have would be to close off the front of the box so it's not sucking in heated air from the radiator and condenser, and I would have liked to have seen the top of the box closed off.

It seems that there's a fair amount of weight put into keeping the induction air cool. Plastic conducts less heat than aluminum and with a intake port that pulls from the front grill area exclusively I would call that a plus. I never could understand sealing the top against the hood panel other than it's the easy route. Essentially the factory box with a larger inlet would be perfect with the larger filter and dual feed tubes.
