Just picked up my car for the dealership. Took it in for a few things. I was thinking that they would fix the seal on the transmission part (the one pass front axle goes into the trans) which was moist, but not dripping. But they put some leak detector in the oil and discovered that the front seal was leaking. So, 18 hours later, no burning oil smell.

Finally took mine in and it was a heat shield touching the exhaust. The new shield is a revised part by Ford so more will probably start burning on SHO's.

I got the burning smell a few days ago too. I thought it smelled like burning plastic rather than oil. Where is the heat shield located?

Not sure. I had my car on my small ramps and couldn't find it. Guess you really need to get it in the air to see. Regardless they fixed and I am happy.

There's a plastic splash shield over the engine affixed by 4 clips. Fairly easy to see and take off. You'll need to get it up on ramps at least tho.

I had the same issue. I just purchased the car used and it smelled of burnt oil or rubber after opening her up. I took it to the dealer and they said its prolly just detailer they used burning of the engine. It ended up being my right turbo leaking oil. They replaced the whole thing, but to be honest i think i still smell it. I paid a lot for the car and am extremly ******. This sounds like its a common issue and one that might be a pain in my ass that never goes away.
