So I've been looking around and I can't seem to find any new driver master window switches, all used and out of old taurus's. Do you guys know of any site where I could get a new one?

With few exceptions, Ford begins to dump most of their spare parts inventory when the vehicle goes over 10 model-years in age. Exception to this are some items like brake lines, which Ford only carries to cover warranty repairs. On the other end of the spectrum, Ford continues to carry those spare parts that have high volume, well beyond 10 years. For example you can still get some parts (although very few) going back decades for the F-150 and Mustang.

Unless you find somewhere carrying NOS (New Old Stock), you're not likely to find that switch panel new. The driver's door lock switch on the other hand was still available the last time I checked, because it was used in more than just the Taurus/Sable driver's door.

If you really want a "new" one and have a part number, I may be able to get it for you - just let me know.

Is the switch just not working? If so, you just take it apart and attempt to clean the contacts! I did that with the wiper/blinker stalk and now the wipers work like a dream. Haha

I'm really interested in knowing how you did that.

I'm having a hard time setting up the intermittent wiper speeds. Normal and High speed work OK and also the lowest setting of the intermittent speed but the other speeds are really a pain to set them up :(

most switch contacts that are accessible you can usually see if the contacts are really bad. Look for black carbon on the metal contact points. Really visible on window switch contacts. I imagine it's similar on other parts.

There's a how-to on sho times showing how to take the stalk apart. Its pretty easy actually. And that's the problem I was having and doing that cleared the symptoms up.

Well I cleaned it and put in dielectric grease so now it won't ever corrode lol, but the thing is it still won't work. The window responds and it tries to move, unlike before, but I think there's something else wrong now...

Could be that the regulator is messed up, or the motor just went bad. This why I say, crank windows FTW. haha

That site has gone away. Some of it is archived on the wikisho website and the rest is probably gone for good.

Do you have a salvage yard nearby?

If so, go tomorrow morning and pull a harness lead out of any Gen I/II Taurus door. Basically, disconnect the door harness from the harness lead coming off the window motor. Next, strip-back the door harness wrap/insulation to expose 8"-12" of that wire. Cut the 2-wire harness off, take it out to your car.

Strip-back about a 1/4" of insultation on the test-harness you just got. Pull the door panel off and attach the connector to your affected window motor.

Next, using a 12V battery, test the motor by briefly touching the wire harness leads to the exposed terminals on the battery. If the window motor does not move, reverse the wires. Once the window glass is centered (half-up/half-down) then move the regulator/glass up and down a few times.

  • If it moves fine in both directions, the master window switch is bad.
  • If it moves slow in both directions, the regulator or door glass is binding.
  • If it moves slower in one direction than the other, it is usually the motor.
  • If it doesn't move at all, it is the motor - because you have effectively bypassed the switch in the master switch panel.

If it moves slow in only one direction, it is possible to re-grease the affected component to make it move easier/smoother.

    Post-back what you find.
