Don't know the correct term for it, but it's stuck.

Where my steering rack connects to my steering knuckle is stuck really good. I was able to beat them out last time I removed the sub frame and the time before that as well but this time they are in the good and stuck on both sides and unfortunately I cannot continue to make progress until these are out.

Castle nuts are out and no luck at all.

You need to use a hammer on the side of the knuckle where the tie rod end (correct term ;))comes through. Don't try and beat it out from the bottom, go from the side. Put some more muscle into it if you have to.

Agreed. You need to strike the side of the knuckle where the outter tie rod is.

Do NOT hit the end of the outter tie rod, unless you have the castle nut installed a few turns.

Put a light coat of greese on the shaft and hole when installing them the next time. This will help with removal later on down the road.

The hammer alone didn't do it, I jacked the car up using the castle nut to hold the car :) then beat the **** out of the side of that knuckle :p

Taking a break now. Its hot as **** here.

Go to Autozoo and get the ball joint (tie rod end?) removal tool. I liked it so much I decided not to return it. It has a clamp that will fit around the spindle arm, and then a screw you tighten that pushes the tie rod end right out.

the jack / hammer combo is always a great move, and way more fun then using that lil press tool. i use those for battery clamps (boxes of acid and BFH's dont make great lovers)

I love when the tie-rod end doesn't just pop out, because that means I get to wail on my car with a Big F-ing Hammer!

Always hit the side of the knuckle with a big ol' hammer. Smacking the side of the knuckle will jar the tie rod out of it's tapered hole. You'll see it jump when it comes loose. There is no need to ever use a pickle fork on a tie rod end, especially if you plan on reusing it!

Get the small pitman arm removal tool from AutoZone. It makes it a piece of cake.
