Several years ago Bob had told me he took some complete strut mount/spring/strut assemblies for a Gen III and put them in his blue Gen II. I think it involved some sort of strut tower modifications, perhaps drilling new holes or slots (maybe just the outboard ones?).

If anyone has anymore information on how Bob did this mod, or could point him to this thread I would appreciate it. Am looking to improve the ride quality on mine and want to swap out the Gen I/II Police upper mounts for the more modern design used in the newer Tauri.

Any pictures would be very much appreciated. Wondering whether the SHOshop front strut tower brace mount plates would work or not.

I think he just redrilled the top of the strut towers so the newer mount style would fit. I thought they were about the same design though.

your ride quality improvement will be with the Gen3 subframe mod - which gets you the Gen3 lower control arm - a huge improvement over the Gen1/2 stuff. The upper strut mount is a minor thing compared to the subframe. btdt.

I already have the Gen III subframe mod (early adopter) significant harshness comes through the upper strut mounts (evidenced by cowl shake, rough ride etc.). There is a reason Ford went to the larger area upper strut mounts/new design for both mount and spring perch/bearing. Cut down Eibachs that are underdamped by my Bilsteins are probably not helping in my case (but they feel very nice at Lime Rock, NHIS, couple of Convention tracks, etc.).

I was at the Ford dealer and they gave me a 2005 model year part to compare to my strut tower top. Looks like the inboard mounting slot would need to be enlarged, and looks like the SHOshop strut tower brace tower plates would need to be completely redone.

I can tell you this: There may have been a little drinking involved at the time. MAY have...
