Hey all,

My black door handles on my 92 look like shit so Im switching them out for NOS ones I've found on Ebay. Do the rear handles interchange between the 1st and 2nd generations?

92 and 93 are the same, 94/95 are different.

If you are going through the trouble of replacing your door handles, have you thought about changing them to the painted versions like those on the 94 and 95 cars? I had a white 92 and I swapped the black door handles over to 94/95 type I picked up at the PnP and painted them white. I'm about to do the same thing on my silver 92 sometime this spring. The tricky part is finding a set of front door locks and keys at the PnP from a 94/95 Taurus or Sable.

yes, you can make the 94/95 ones fit, but the lock cylinders are different and you must have 94/95 locks to make it work. I agree that the body color ones are a lot nicer, especially on lighter color cars.

Is it possible to paint the black door handles, and have the paint stay on?

Long story: had my 90 titanium painted, and at the time, drilled out the rivits and replaced them with stainless nuts - bolts - washers and left them loose to make the taping easier.
The painter ignored all that and painted them.
Immediately the paint started to flake off, but some areas are still stubornly painted.

What are these handles made from and can they be painted? Or, are they easily cleaned using something generic?
I don't mind the black handles.

I think they are a glass-filled nylon or something similar. You should be able to use a Q-tip and some acetone to get the paint off them, but do not get the acetone on any of the 'good' paint!
