I've beem looking for a Thread or Video for changing the oil on my Gen4 SHO. When I had a s2000, the s2ki site had lots like this. I just wanted to read/see what those who have already done this encountered. Please point me in the right direction, if you can.

I would also like to find a Shop Manual but can't find on one the net.

The only thing with changing the oil is the cover, just four quarter turn screws and it comes off. Make sure you put it back on right. Also, don't crank down the drain plug, it's an aluminum oil pan. Other than that, just your basic oil change.

Exactly what Mike said. Nothing to it but that big ass cover under there. Once you do it the first time, you'll be all set. :naughty:

After you buy all the parts and take into account the cost of your time for a couple dollars more you can have someone else do it for you and you don't have to clean up the mess or even get dirty, you can even sip an ice cold drink while they do it too :hail:

Yeah, but the car guy gene dictates you have to do it yourself. Besides, a lot of these oil change places employ these Jethro Bodine types that were interrupted practicing their goesindas by having to do your oil change. IRL, the type of oil and filter doesn't make that much of a difference, frequency of oil changes is what matters, but I'm still **** about it.

I let a shop (Pep Boys in Blasedell, Mike) change my oil once because I was pressed for time and they almost stripped my drain plug. It also took them like 30mins, which I can do it in about 15min, not worth it. I've even went home on my lunch break and done one. I have too much OCD to let other people do it, especially after the Pep boys experience. It actually costs me more to do it myself, but I know I'm doing it right, and using a quality oil/filter.

Can't agree with you more! Exact same way I feel & the peace of mind helps too.

To help drain the filter and prevent a big mess, I used a punch and knocked a hole in the oil filter to assist in draining it.

No you will have one **** of a mess to clean up when they leave the oil cap off and oil blows all over every inch of your engine and hood and wheel tubs.

I'll be doing my own from now on.

On my S2000 I installed a Fomoto oil drain valve http://www.lubricationspecialist.com/front/showcontent.aspx?fileid=105&gclid=CIKKvPeOvKICFch_5QodP32d3w so that I could actually change the oil without having to crawl under the car and never had to worry about stripping the plug. I'm probably going to do the same in the SHO but I haven't had to fill up the gas yet much less change the oil. I like changing the oil myself.

Do you not have to get under the car take off the cover, turn the valve and change the filter?

No, I just opened the hood and reached down to turn the valve. I slid the drain pan under the car and slid it out when done.

It won't be as easy with the SHO and the skid plate I have to remove.

It's more like an insulated plastic cover that holds on to oil caps left off by the oil change service center real well, at least it did mine.

That's why I go to the dealer and get mine done :naughty: I got a coupon in my email from my Ford dealer right about oil change time, last oil change on my Ford Edge (synthetic blend, at the dealer) with tire rotation was $25. Sorry but for that price and dealer doing and taking full responsiblity I'll be in the waiting room just call me when it's done :)

The Ford dealer was the one who did mine.

It was the complementary 1'st oil change.

They didn't get it clean either, they tried.

I was looking into that too. I was wondering though if it's short enough not to interfere with the cover. What's neat about them besides the valve, you can hook up a hose and drain it right into a jug... just got to be careful not to overfill it!
