I have seen people use dielectric grease, but I wouldn't run it for too long. The heat sink compound is designed to spread the heat and cool the DIS.

In a pinch, the DIS *should* be ok without anything for a day or two. At most. Keep mileage to an absolute minimum, and keep idling to a minimum as well, as idling generates more heat at the DIS than cruise does.

When Radio Shack opens up again, go get a tube of heat transfer compound or heat sink paste (it's all the same thing) and apply as such:

Grab heat sink paste in a computer store , the heat sink used for processors. Works like a charm.

I don't think it matters too much if you apply it exactly like the diagram. I recently pulled mine off to put some fresh compound on it, and there was practically none on it. I'm surprised I didn't fry my module.

Nah, it doesn't matter. As long as it all has coverage you're good. The chart is to disabuse people of the notion that one dab in the middle is enough. Which I have seen. It's not good.
