I have an 89 SHO, 5-speed, and the cooling fan motor is shot. I went to get another one for 30 bucks from the parts store and it was the wrong one. He said I had a fan motor from a 90 SHO and it was 130 bucks. What is the difference besides the obvious mounting and electrical connectors? Can I get any cooling fan setup from a SHO and swap it in mine, or do I have to have the expensive motor?

thanks

All the 5 speed SHO have the same cooling fan and motors. It is very common for parts stores to have incorrect listings. I had the same problem with my '90. The motor they clamed to fit my car was nothing like what it actually needed. You will have to buy the $130 one or find a good used one.

The cooling fans in the '89s are SINGLE speed.

Im not sure specifically if '90s had single or dual, but I know the later model SHOs had dual speed.

BTW, you dont need a new motor, just new brushes ;)

so should I just go to the Ford dealership, get the one from Advance autoparts, or go to the junkyard and see if I could find one? I'm thinking in least amount of money and quickest to be repaired, as I just bought the car less than 2 weeks ago and the GF is tired of me taking her car

Ford will laugh at you and quote you the outrageous price they would charge if they could get it. Advance, I would be surprised if they could. Junkyard would be a good option. Also, you could take it to an electronics place and have them replace the brushes, as that is probably the problem.
