I was driving home tonight after school and looked down on my gauges and seen that my temp gauge is pegged to hot. I was like oh no. Just passed an exit to get off to check the car. Drove 2 more miles on the highway to an exit, pulled into the gas station and opened the hood. I could hear coolant boiling. Looked around and noticed that the hose from the radiator to the engine came lose from the radiator. Well I went and got water and started to fill the radiator back up until it wouldn't take anymore. Let the car sit for about 20 minutes. Then started the car and let run for 25 seconds. Let sit for 5 more minutes and drove 4 miles to my home. Did I do anything wrong? I wanted to protect my engine that is why I let it sit for so long. Could I have done anything differently?

The only other thing you could have done was pulled over and shut it off immediately. As long as there are no signs of issues you should be okay. Just make sure you drain it and refill it with coolant (water/antifreeze) sooner than later, before it gets below freezing.

If you don't have coolant in your oil and you're not billowing out white smoke out the back, you should be fine. These cars don't have head gaskets that fail very easily. FWIW, My 95 went to the H the other day and I drove it a mile or 2 home. I didn't even have steam billowing out of my hood or anything. I could hear coolant boiling. I think I've got a leak somewhere; haven't had a chance to check it out and I haven't really driven the car much since then. It was dark when I got home, and I really wanted to narrow down the issue while the car was still very hot.
