This is where I will be chronicling the build-up of my 1990 turbocharged track car. This is going to be a no-compromises Open Road Racing/Standing Mile Racing weapon.
After many years of experiencing the joys (and tribulations) of turbocharged SHO ownership, I grew tired of the issues that kept surfacing, most notably those having to do with the continual shredding of 3rd gear. But also the compromises one must make when building a high HP SHO that serves dual-purpose, that is, one that sees some track time but also serves as a daily driver. Packaging concerns, heavy clutch in traffic, excessive weight, etc. Those issues cease to be a concern when your purpose is first and foremost speed over comfort. With the HVAC/ABS/SRS/audio/power windows/moonroof systems removed, not only is the car a LOT lighter, but you now have lots of room to use however you see fit. Along with the benefits you experience in handling/acceleration/braking, less weight also means less stress on the unibody/brakes/wheels/tires and most important, the transaxle. Gone are the days of self-imposed 300ft lbs tq limits. Lose 500lbs of dead weight from your SHO, and not only does it get a lot faster, but parts last longer.
So, since this car make no concessions in the name of comfort, it can focus on one goal, to be the fastest/quickest SHO on the planet. And this goal will be reached. Let the SHOspeed Project begin!
