Whenever i hit around 75 or 80 in my 94 mtx, my dashboard begins to shake. It seems to move almost an entire inch very rapidly. If i leave change in the little compartment under the radio it sounds like a jackhammer. The rest of the car is still completely smooth, you cant feel it unless you reach out your hand and touch the dash. It also shakes the steering wheel a bit. if i go over 85 the shaking dissapears. This is annoying since traffic tends to flow around 75 so im always going too slow or speeding enough to get ticketed on highways. Any ideas on how to fix this would be great.

I have that same exact problem with my 1992 MTX SHO. Anybody who knows the cure let us know.

Get a 4 wheel balance and alignment done. This should fix the problem. If not, it could be some part of the drivetrain worn. Good Luck!

4 wheel alignment and balance, and that will cure the problem. Mine had the same problem, and this cured it. I just got it done the other day, and WOW it is soooooo nice

Alignment and balance is the first thing to do, but the shaking dash can also be caused by uneven tire wear. My '90 did this to two sets of tires before I figured out what was happening. The front camber was way out, wearing scallops into the inner tire edges. Breaking the spot welds on the strut towers and correcting the camber fixed the problem for good.

Also, find a reputable alignment shop. I once had a Goodyear shop in Atlanta tell me my SHO must have been wrecked because the alignment was so far out on one side. When I sought a second opinion, an experienced technician immediately understood that the Goodyear alignment lift was out-of-level and that nothing was wrong with my car.

Is there anyway to stiffen up the whole dash or add some cushion(foam or something) to it? Because of my stiff ass suspension my $800 alpine head unit freakin skips on almost every bump, b/c the shock goes straight to where the radio/eq is. I have already been through 3different lens units all replaced by Alpine and after a month or so the gel inside wears down and I know its not the radio b/c when I had it in my other car it never skipped.

Unless you have uneven tire wear, all you need is a good tire balance job. That can be harder to find than you might think.

Agreed. Every time I have my tires balanced, I end up taking it back the next day to have it done right.

Most likely the problem you're having, BWP116.

definitely balance, AND Have a shop to make sure your tires are round. Sounds odd, but believe it or not 1 out of ten wheels I balance are actualyl out of round, meaning the center hole is offest a tiny bit, find a shop that will 'true a tire' and it may fix this is the balancing doesn't. Trueing it is essentially shaving off the long/eccentric side of the tire.
