Sounds like the blend door. there's a bunch of position sensors that tell the system where the door's at, and if one or more of those sensors fail, the door just thrashes about wildly until it just gives up, usually after 60 seconds or so.

Well if I find mine I'll tell you what I found but I've not been able to find it as of yet.
If yours has the CD player you may want to see if it's clicking.

I have the same clicking in mine. It seems to be random as long as I have the car running and the heat turned on. Also, I can only get air through the defrost, my other vents don't seem to work. I assume its related. I hope somebody finds it becaues I'm gonna tear my car apart soon to try to fix it.

heat from only the defroster is the blend door. You may want to check the blower motor compartment (very difficult to get to) But I had a peice of plastic fall into mine and it made noise off and on.

Well thats nice....very difficult to get to....oh well. I think I will at least wait until it is spring and warmer to tear things apart. Looks like this could be a bit of a mess of a project!

Also when the heat is set at 70 or what ever I set it on it never goes of it just keeps getting hotter and hotter. What ever it is I think it effects my airconditioning and the vent because with eithe r of those on it still blows hot air.

Yeah guys, that definately happened to me too. It would make a clicking noise when started or with the key on and would only throw hot air. For me, it was the blend door actuator (?) or something (basically the motor that controls the blend door). It's a HUGE pain in the *** to get too, because you pretty much have to rip the entire dashboard apart. Plan it for a weekend, trust me.

If it varies with fan speed, it's probably the fan. Also, if the display is dimming while clicking, it could be the control unit for the fan.

If you have the electric climate control then you could run a self scan of the system by holding the off and floor buttons for two seconds and then press the automatic button. A code of 888 is system check ok.

Huh, yea, I ran the check on mine and I got 02 which is the blend door actuator. I have been searching for repair tips and it sounds like it should be a LOT of fun to fix.

Incorrect.

A failure of the climate control vacuum/vent system (broken or clogged hose, for example) will cause the system to default to the defrost setting. This is for safety purposes.

On the other hand, a broken blend door or a blend door actuator failure will prevent the system from attaining a certain temperature, either warmer or colder, depending on the positon that the door may be stuck in.

FWIW, I found a mini bic lighter stuck in my own SHO's blend door, it caused the door to crack at the hinge where the BDA stem plugs in. I had an 02 code and no heat because of the way the door was jammed. All climate control settings (vent, floor defrost, etc.) worked fine.

I've had that happen twice, but never again after I cleaned my battery terminals (my cables are corroded). I've never pulled the squirrel cage housing to check for debris, though.

I cleaned a blower fan and housing that was making noise in a 2002 Carrera today. It looked like a bag of trail mix had exploded in it! Mice ruin cars, man!
